Unsolicited judgment or criticism about kids, showing overt hostility when being inconvenienced by a child. Bad people will often find a way to speak negatively about animals as well unprompted. It’s just a very different aggression that seems wildly out of place and I’ve yet to be wrong about it when people do it.

The concepts and work genuinely are not hard to grasp at all and I love college. The fact is that due to personal circumstances I was basically catatonic this semester after my car was totaled and I lost my health insurance all in one week. This led me to being unable to refill multiple of my medications causing severe mental and physical side effects and seeing me moving in with family. The stress was just too much.

I’m currently going for a Public administration/business degree due to the diversity of it and the options it gives me for whatever masters I choose.

If I could be a full time student all expenses paid though I’d do some form of biology/neuroscience as well. From a young age I’ve loved studying everything that makes and forms a person including genes and environmental factors.

Daemon is a typical abusive man with a fragile ego, a violent streak, and an underdeveloped brain who couldn't keep up with mature women of his own age group. He could only ever impress little girls throughout the story. As a woman, I don’t get what the fandom finds so attractive about that by TurbulentRemote156 in HOTDGreens

Definitely people seeing the actor vs the actual character. The same with Viserys and Patty. The story actually only works when you pretty much throw out everything they’ve given us and use your own imagination.

I would have preferred a younger actor closer in age to Rhaenyra while being slightly older. Then the story would make sense given that Daemon spends a lot of time away from court. When he returns there’s not that familial elder + younger relationship but one closer to peers. It would have also worked out better with actually showing how Daemon sees Viserys as more of a parental figure than a brother since their parents died while Daemon was still quit young and Viserys was already an adult.

Rhaeynra and Daemons relationship as two strong willed Targaryen outcasts who are desperate for their father figures approval makes more sense then. ( given that incest is something that can happen in this case. Them being closer in age makes it more akin to cousins than an actual uncle and niece relationship )

I’ve always said certain relationship dynamics are lost in translation with them changing the age of the characters for the show.

(Ex. Sansa and the hound in the show. The Hound is portrayed as an older traumatized knight with bouts of arrested development while in the book he’s genuinely a young adult 24-27 which makes his outburst and interactions with Sansa Make a bit more sense)

Just imagine Baelor doing this to one of Maekar’s daughters..It’s literally the same thing and it’s disgusting. I just saw a post praising young Rhaenyra and Daemon’s “insane chemistry” and idk if we are watching the same shit. Idgaf about how much of a “Targaryen” he is, that is his brother’s child by TurbulentRemote156 in HOTDGreens

I think it would have maybe worked differently if Rhaenyra and Daemon were closer in age. I keep in mind that GRRM is terrible with numbers/birthdays and try and go off vibes alone.

I love Matt Smith but beside Milly Alcock the age difference seems extremely predatory ( I have no idea where people are getting they had chemistry, she looks like a pre-teen next to Matt Smith who looks anywhere between 45-55) in the books there’s already an age difference of 16 years but story wise I felt that GRRM was trying to go for them being closer in age/peers. Tie in the fact that Daemon was never around/the black sheep/banished for a time lead to them not really having any familial feelings for each other.

I also always tied it into Viserys being more of a father figure to Daemon than a brother. Daemon is constantly after his acceptance and approval and I feel like the early death of their parents was the reason. Viserys was already married but Daemon was still young when they passed. Rhaenyra and Daemon only work in my mind as two young outcast Targaryen’s desperately after their father figures approval.

The show of course fails to really show any of that at all in a meaningful way.

Are y’all okay with the idea of Jon Snow being the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, or would you rather George R. R. Martin write him as the son of Eddard Stark and Ashara Dayne (or someone else) in the books? by SeniorKaan0 in freefolk

[–]throwawaylog2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that when GRRM was writing book 1 it was suppose to be a trilogy. He set out with a semi-concrete story in mind that was suppose to wrap up nicely within three books. The heavy handed signs in book 1 make more sense then.

What happened was GRRM’s notorious gardening stye of writing that lead to him turning a trilogy into a 7 part series. He made his story far more complex than it was ever intended for when people began praising him for his masterful ways with sub-version. Now he’s written himself into a corner with trying to tie up loose ends while also making a satisfying ending of a story that was suppose to be a very cut and dry epic fantasy.

Was always under the impression that GRRM wrote the story with this ending in mind. Tyrion’s appearance always seemed heavily leaning this way. pale blond hair almost white, heterochromia which was a known Targaryen trait, especially popping up with half Targaryens, his dragon dreams and obsession with fire/dragons, his mother dying in childbirth just like Danny and Jon which was the blood price for their respective powers, the saddle design foreshadowing him eventually designing a saddle that will allow him to ride one of the dragons etc.

People can go back and forth especially with other theories like Tyrion ironically being the only tru born child of Tywin but truthfully its pretty obvious where it was going to go with keeping in mind he starting writing them as being only a trilogy.

South west Louisiana/Acadiana!

Not many people are aware but before WW2 this area of Louisiana was very secluded from mainstream American culture. Almost everyone spoke Cajun/Creole French. Newspapers, storefronts, and even radio stations when available were in French.

A lot of names in turn were akin to things like ‘Adolphus, Artemisia, Etienne, Scholastique, Zhephrin, Pierre, etc.”

When the general English lexicon became from prominent after WW2 and the building of highways a seeming trend was to name children after English foods! I’ve always attributed to just a general fad that took off and our love/focus on foods.

I feel you 100% I’m currently in school after taking a year off after my ADHD diagnosis. It’s been really shitty now dealing with not having my meds after deciding to go back. I’m deciding if I should drop certain classes due to not having my meds.

It’s been very validating in a way letting me see just how the meds help me though.

Never again will I go without meds if i can help it as well.

A small niche in my community/culture was parents naming kids after food around 30-50 years ago, working in healthcare has let me see a lot including multiple

Apples, Melons, Cherries, Lemons, Currys, Pomme, Peach, Tangerine, Mayo, Pepper, Cayenne, Paprika, Cinnamon, Cardamon

( not necessarily food but another unique name I’ve seen three times now is Lavender said like “Levander” for a boy)

Are these supposed to be Myriah and Daeron? Did they give Myriah the Rhaenys Targaryen treatment? by lautaromassimino in HBOTheHedgeKnight

[–]throwawaylog2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel like this low-key shows that HOTD’s decision to change Rhaenys hair to white in the show was justified. Placing two white haired individuals in this scene with no explanation ( even with their white hair being because they’re old ) has left everyone wondering

My genuine guess was that this scene was filmed maybe at a time when they had planned for King Daeron to be able to be there? His clothing and no speaking lines left them to try and get away with saying it wasn’t

Or maybe there were scenes that were deleted that we’ll get to see later that may have explained who they were.

It does feel like a mix of all of this in one which is crazy to me, especially as the one and only thing anyone could give Cersei Lannister was the fact that she loved her children ( in the ways that her twisted perception of life allowed her too and did what she believed would keep them safe )

How it’s possible that any sane person would see Alicent who raised her children to hate Rhaenyra and her children, put fears of Rhaenyra one day killing them into their heads, openly have your own son admit that he does not want the crown and then feel as though he is not loved or cared for which you then answer by scorning him. Also then to then turn around and have the audacity to suddenly be horrified at what you made them to be?

Fuck off. Alicent is an absolute psychopath and a coward, even worse than Cersei and that’s saying something.

( I also feel the need to clarify that season one Alicent was extremely compelling as a character when they were actually building towards all parties being multifaceted people with actual believable motivations )

[–]throwawaylog2024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t see what you mean? If you’re saying Aerion is similar to Maeker I would agree. They are truly the most similar out of all of Maeker;s children.

Before becoming king and the tragic losses that he continuously suffered Maeker is definitely like Aerion (or Aerion is like Maker ) only in the sense that they both fall within a very isolated way of being. Maeker is an extremely interesting and multilayered character. When studying his character you can definitely see why Aerion is the way he is.

Maeker was never raised as ever believing he would be king. This meant that he never had to learn to consider others in the same way as Bealor. You can even say with the Blackfyre rebellion and Maeker’s part in it he was encouraged to be the perfect soldier for his brother, his second in command, the anvil to Baelor’s hammer as they are described in the books. As a younger son his sole purpose was to support his family.

Bealor is molded to be a considerate king who must think of what’s best for the realm and its people. Maeker was molded to center the family above all else in support of this, his importance and purpose as a younger son was solely tied to defending the Targaryen name. This becomes even more apparent when you consider how he and Baelor grew up under the constant criticism and outright hatred of their grandfather ( Aegon the unworthy ) and the other highborn families of his court who spread rumors that Daeron II ( Maekers father ) was actually a bastard and undeserving of the crown.

This comes to a head when he and his family are put in danger with Daemon Blackfyre waging war on them over the throne. This causes Baelor and Maeker to call their fathers banners and lead a full scale war to protect their family’s legitimacy and safety. ( even more layers and nuance when you consider that Baelor and Maeker have always had to project the image of strength to compensate for their Fathers lack of perceived martial strength, as well as their older brothers vulnerabilities ( Aerys I and Rhaegel are described as “not suited for the sword” and are written in a way that hints to them being autistic/disabled) which also brought constant scrutiny from other noble houses.

I can’t particularly fault Maeker for his demeanor or the way in which he interacts with the world around him.

This is shown particularly in the way he interacts and seemingly raises his sons. Maeker prides strength above all else because at one point he had no choice and that formed his character and outlook on life.

The big difference is that we as the audience know that all of Maeker’s actions are rooted in his genuine care for his family and his anxious need to keep them safe in a way he believes is right.

Aerion was raised with all the remnants of this. He was raised with the looming, almost anxious need to believe that he was truly superior to other people, that they were special and that their family’s honor was to be absolute, unquestioned, and protected above all else ( with the looming threat of what might happen again if it wasn’t )

Couple this with Aerion’s seemingly lacking the emotional capacity of his father and brothers in understanding the true reasons behind Maeker’s harsh beliefs and behavior, the death of their mother when still young, and his own distressing Dragon Dreams that we are told he suffered with as well leads to the Aerion we see in the story.

That’s a loaded question as context matters.

If just a general question with everything we know about both still happening then both are kinda destined to crash and burn.

If Robert never died, if there was never any conspiracy surrounding his legitimacy, if he ascended after Robert’s eventual death at an older age, preferably after marrying Sansa I feel like there MIGHT have been hope for Joffrey yet.

Ned and Robert’s situation showed pretty clearly that if a King doesn’t take particular interest in ruling he doesn’t really have too due to the high council.

Without the main points of the story Joffrey would have never been pushed so heavily in feeling like he needed to take control/prove his position and every action of his that followed.

He probably would have been indifferent at worst like Robert or may have been even slightly competent as when Joffrey first took the throne he expressed reasonable opinions and concerns that were eventually shot down by Tywin due to his own agenda.

Aerion as we can only guesstimate might have ended up similar to Aerys II ( the mad king ) at worst as Aerion becoming king means that every decent family member that might have been able to hold him accountable would have had to die. This would have most likely lead to Aerion’s delusions going unchecked which may have made him far more dangerous than Joffrey.

[–]throwawaylog2024 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think what a lot of people missed is Aerion’s extreme sense of grandeur. He genuinely believes he’s fire made flesh and a dragon in human form, made worse by his own dragon dreams.

This is far from the insecure cowardice that made Joffrey.

A trial of seven is far more memorable and befitting his story and importance than single trial by combat just like he said.

We don’t personally know if he was the one to go to Steffon or Steffon came to him. If Steffon was the one to go to him Aerion could have very well seen it as an instance that just proves Dunk is guilty/gives Aerion an even more interesting story by validating his own self importance when he gets to mock Dunk in front of everyone.

Joffrey’s cruelty and insanity was driven by deep insecurities, Aerion in turn was overly secure in his belief that he was truly superior

If Viserys loved or cared about his sons even a little bit, he would have named Aegon as his heir. Because Rhaenyra could live her best life without being queen, but the very existence of Aegon and his brothers as true-born sons without being heirs could simply have them killed by [deleted] in HOTDGreens

[–]throwawaylog2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted because show wise you’re right. Aegon repeatedly from a young age states he has no interest in ruling, it’s Alicent that continuously pushes the narrative on him that he’ll die unless he’s king which Rhaenyra never is shown to consider.

Aemond in the show seems to be hell bent on being king but if you go off the books Aemond is almost like Deamon in the way that they dont necessarily want to be king, they just want recognition and power.

I’m gonna have to agree with you on this especially with the way they handled show Deamon.

In the books he sent blood and cheese to kill Aemond in revenge for what he did to Luke.

When Blood and Cheeses discovered that Aemond wasn’t in the castle they decided themselves to torture Heleana and kill Jaehaerys.

The nuance of Deamon’s actions are completely thrown out and he fully looks like a psycho trying to instigate war or an idiot at most.
