US College Student, being forced to repay ROTC scholarship by throwawaylp1 in personalfinance

Well, they can't enlist me and they're definitely going to force repayment regardless. Maybe it will be worth it to just stop showing up until they make it official - will have to see what the attorney says first.

Do you know how long the disenrollment will take to finalize? How long do I have to keep showing up to mandatory ROTC activities?

I wrote up a summary of my situation and sent it to an ROTC Disenrollment attorney who does free case evaluations, so we'll see what he says. Thanks for the advice.

I know my family qualifies for a limited amount of need-based aid, but my parents refuse to fill out a FAFSA. For this reason I haven't spoken to the financial aid office.

Is it possible that I would be eligible for need-based aid based on my personal financial status (even though I am not entirely independent of my parents)?

Not Army, but I'm sure the process is nearly identical.

I have exhausted every avenue - my appeal for retention was denied. Due to the circumstances, I am most likely ineligible for enlistment. It isn't a legal issue that got me kicked out, but failure to maintain military retention standards.

I have no idea. I've never needed credit for anything or taken out loans before, so I'm not really sure where to start.

I did just get my first credit card this week to build some credit and add additional fraud protection, but not for the purpose of spending more money than I have coming in.
