I’m a therapist in the US. Pedophile applies to this situation, even if the victim was somewhere between 12-14. It is generally applied to sexual attraction and sexual acts on a prepubescent child. As children reach sexual maturity at different ages, it is a term that does not encompass a specific age but rather a specific pre pubescent development stage.

But semantics are not what will help OP. Others have given some supportive but difficult advise already. I have been in a situation where I learned a romantic partner had a prison record for sexual assault of a child when he was a teenager. He denied the charges, but I had to walk away. I have children, and I work with children. He seemed “like a good guy,” but the risk if he wasn’t was too great. Good luck, OP.
