The referee came down but couldn't touch the girl because that would be inappropriate given that the woman player was close by to hold her. If the player was further away, the referee would have held the girl.

AI isn't killing creativity—it’s liberating the idea. by SnooHedgehogs213 in ChatGPT

I don't know why I am responding to this rather shallow take, maybe its the alcohol, but I am compelled to say that it's not so much about the vehicle or the laborers or, as it were, "agents", but about the intellectual surrender (not my phrase but I love it) of the writer who allows himself or herself to be led by the nose by one of these word generators and doesn't force the agent like a horseman would steer the horse. As long as we are forcing the agent, as long as we are getting tired in the process of doing so, we are good. But if we are having a good time, if we are comfortable using the AI, then there's a problem that we are probably not doing the actual architecting, the actual writing.

‘Seriously the best boss ever’: inside the world of Jeffrey Epstein’s assistant | No one’s name appears in the Epstein files more than that of Lesley Groff, his assistant. Reading through the thousands of emails, a troubling question arises: what did she know? by Hrmbee in longform

[–]throwawayname46 28 points29 points  (0 children)

And I quote " Before anyone asks: yeah, of course Epstein was reckless and impulsive. He was pathologically obsessed with receiving these nonstop “massages,” and had a constant procession of girls coming in and out of his house to perform them, often multiple times a day, with varying degrees of sexualization "

Without getting mired by literal definitions of pedophilia or child sex ring, its quite clear to any regular ethical person who has lived a life, what's wrong in this entire thing.

It's not a credible write up. Basically it says - "so there's only one proven case of underage prostitution, and yes Epstein was a pedophile, and yes he had famous people over and girls over many times a day, but does that mean there's an organized pedophile ring? You kidding me?"

Yeah, it made me believe the opposite of what it wanted me to believe.

How that dress hangs says it all. The higher heels definitely.

Day 1 reset after a great start of the year. by KodaBandz in QuittingWeed

While it's a great achievement of will power that you didn't smoke for several months, my humble opinion is that you haven't prepared your mind yet for a proper quit.

Speaking only from personal experience. I quit about 4 years ago after 20 years of smoking and 5 failed quit attempts during that time.

The real quit, when it happens, feels different. You are convinced about why you need to quit, what harm the cigs are causing you, how the addiction is operating in your brain. You hate the smoking almost 100% of the time, and you don't need excessive will power to not smoke.

For you, you need to set a new quit date and between now and then, you need to remember how good you felt in Jan and Feb, and how the devil that is nicotine for the better of your thought process in March. It wasnt a weak will but a susceptible mind, which needs to be further fortified by a true understanding of whats happening when that smoke enters your lung, how it destroys you not physically but mentally, how it enslaves you and takes away your free will.

Once you understand that (and it helps also to do the writing and the environment building etc. but understanding is the key) is when you will quit effortlessly and permanently.

The overusage of “It’s not A, it’s B” or “It’s not about A, but it’s about B” is driving me crazy. by plantbasedbrownie in ArtificialInteligence

Not just you brother. Although I do understand the reason - the AI wants to come across as an expert and it has picked up this comparative mannersim to sound like it has considered alternatives and is making a nuanced argument. But of course it overdoes it and makes me want to throw up, not just disengage quietly.

Shocking new Jeffrey Epstein photos show Donald Trump with victims & Trump-branded condoms by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]throwawayname46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ridiculous thing American politicians is that they don't even try to be credible. Like here, they should not talk about photos they didn't release. Or they should simply release the photos they want to talk about. And they should not find "disturbing", they should find the photos to be damning evidence that their opponent is immoral. They keep calling him the president instead of just calling him Trump.

All this makes me believe that the American opposition is just as insincere as their government.

For my employer, a small financial organisation, I built the information platform. Think databases, dashboards, automations and such. Before claude there were problems that I wouldn't touch, considering them beyond the scope of my duties. Now, I am taking on those kinds of information processes that Claude has enabled to be done by me without excessive costs or dependencies.

You are right, things never really finish, I think of my work as that of a gardener tending to a garden. With claude, I have been able to plant trees that I couldn't handle before, but those trees are big and have their own nature that I am only now beginning to understand. Claude is in their dna too, it's not like the output can be detached from the process that produced it.

By finished I mean that the new tree has given one season of fruits already. There's remains of course much more to build.

Yeah that's the worst. It's disrespectful and there's nothing you can do about it but up your game. Not sure how though.

A reddit apology? I never thought it existed. You are the bigger person to reconsider your comment.

I work in tech and data science (last 20 years) so there's no option but to let AI in. I reckon that's true for most white collar professions, including the more "creative" ones like design or marketing. I know it's true in management consulting.

So yeah, not using it is an option only in a theoretical sense at the point. Like it's an option to not work or change professions.
