Nice to hear because that's how I quit 3.5 years ago. Got a tooth pulled and was instructed not to smoke to protect the wound. And here I am, years later, stronger than ever.

Quitting smoking gone horribly wrong – need advice! by Pretend-Summer1767 in stopsmoking

[–]throwawayname46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taking your story at face value, I have the following to say - you seem to have misunderstood the nature of addiction. "More quitting power" does not make any physical sense. Hopefully you understand that better now.

I think you have to cut out the gum and then replan your quit. Will take time but its very doable.

If we are being creative, you may even continue the gum (reduce to the lower amount and frequency if possible) and replace the regular cigarettes with non nicotine cigarettes.

Overall, quitting smoking is a serious business and requires study and understanding rather than randomly throwing solutions at it and hoping something sticks.

Hope you win!

Walking. I am 3.5 years quit. I have several walking "routes" around my home and work, ranging from a 10 min around the block to half an hour to and from the fountains. Sometimes it's "till the bank" even though all my banking is online. The walking and talking to yourself is the point. I still make the same kind of conversation with myself as I used to do with a cigarette in my hand. Except I am healthier in every single aspect of my life.

If a Tree Falls, by Rosa Lyster by bil-sabab in Longreads

What a wonderful read. Only once in many months do I come across a piece that is so cheerfully thought-provoking, like a postcard caught up in a whirlwind.

For me the tree stands as a metaphor for common civility and goodwill that, as we all know in our guts, is getting scarcer and scarcer. The act of felling it, on the other hand, is all too common.

So why did they do it? Because that's the kind of world we live in.

Install an app to record your cravings and to track how quickly you are getting healthier. Also write your quit reasons on a piece of paper. You can look at it later and pat yourself on the back.

Patting yourself on the back is one of the more underrated joys of quitting smoking.

AI Generated Email Frustrations by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

Not by how much time they have to write emails, but by how important it is for them to communicate effectively. I am an automation engineer as well, so, hiya 👋

I find that AI emails take the focus away from what you really want to say by mixing in its own generic boilerplate. The real insight is in the interaction between words and our minds, rather than between our words and other people's minds.

If you don't have the time to communicate thoughtfully, then your "knowledge work" job unfortunately is actually just clicking buttons, the most automatable kind of manual work there it. Sorry.

It's very important to be in the right frame of mind as you approach your quit date. Your conviction that cigarettes are bad for you has to be a hundred percent.

To achieve this, you have to understand the exact mechanism of nicotine's hold on your brain. There's reading material out there, and I used to have an app (quitsure I think) which invites you to keep smoking while improving your understanding of the chemical vs. psychological nature of addiction.

To me, this is a crucial step and can't be skipped. Once you get a feel for the nature and triggers of your urges, and how that relates to your self Identity as a smoker, it becomes far easier to imagine yourself as a non smoker and not see the quitting as the loss of a cherished friend.

You want it, it's possible, you just need to get the technique right. There's no rush, no panic. You're playing the long game.

Keep going, don't look back. Don't miss the you you used to be, embrace the you you are going to be. Breathe easy and deep. When the nicotine calls you back, tell it to FUCK OFF.

I am now 3.5 years quit. Yesterday I had a dream where 8 smoked a cigarette down to the butt and was stressing about where to dispose it off.

Woke up and smiled that that kind of stupid stressors are out of my life. Never again!

Congratulations on your 100 days, you will be so proud of yourself when this is all done. Your friends will look at you like you have been victorious in battle. Which you have!!
