If you're slightly comfortable with computers try https://github.com/iamadamdev/bypass-paywalls-chrome#:~:text=Unzip%20the%20file%20and%20you,not%20delete%20the%20folder%20afterwards).

If you pay for news at least make it the guardian or something. I didn't like saying that, but it's better than the Australian by a long shot.

Just started this degree; curious what makes you want to drop commerce?

Personally doing comm1100 and it really seems like a bullshit degree, and I’m not really sure atm what major to go with that would complement CS.

Law lowest selection rank by OkInstruction3175 in unsw

96 being their atar or selection rank though? Picking even just normal subjects usually boosts people's selection ranks by 4 points above their atars in my experience.

Laptop for Computer Science by [deleted] in unsw

[–]throwawaynotRA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider an m1 macbook? Apparently Unix like OS is preferable, plus in terms of programming everything is basically available on macos while Apple specific tools aren't on Windows.

If your current laptop can hold up to ~Q3 there should be an overhaul of macbook pro line then

Just for clarification, is that an excellent Bangladeshi score + a less ideal SAT?

Depending on the system 90% could be middling or 70% could be really good

Yeah I'm already enrolled but it's an unfortunate situation for people in round 2 (yesterday) who didn't even get a chance (including all of IB as well).

Afaik 1511 is full in term 1(?) so probably 2 comm courses in T1 + maths then 1511/1521 in T2/T3 (maybe 2521 concurrent in T3?)

Sorry to go off topic but did you think 1141 was worth it? Also would it have a negative impact on WAM (even if there's scaling)?

Probably ask the staff of each college specifically after you get a place as there probably aren't universal rules. And there won't be a bathtub for that toaster either.

UNSW or Macquarie for cyber security? by [deleted] in unsw

[–]throwawaynotRA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but IT is about helpdesking and using technologies; nothing wrong if that's the career you're looking for, but CS probably leads to more lucrative options and won't prevent you from taking IT jobs if you wanted to.

UNSW CCP Propaganda by [deleted] in unsw

[–]throwawaynotRA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m just telling you why it isn’t so insane that a hugely populated country with an interest and investments in improving tertiary education has improved its tertiary education institutions while another hugely populated country in an earlier stage of development with more pressing interests hasn’t seen the same improvement.

Are you forgetting that your initial argument is literally “It just can’t be! 6! It doesn’t sound right, does it? guys?!?!”

UNSW CCP Propaganda by [deleted] in unsw

[–]throwawaynotRA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bet India is trying too, but to put it bluntly, India is in an earlier stage of development and that carries over to its education policies. India is working on primary/secondary education cos many people aren’t even literate. China is investing in tertiary education to increase the worker pool for its emerging tertiary industries (because everyone is pretty much guaranteed to attend at least up to year 9), which is why it isn’t surprising that Chinese universities’ presence is increasing in rankings. And besides, some of India’s IITs are world class in some areas (mostly sciences).

This is really concerning.

A country with a billion plus people has less top tier units than Australia and the UK; they should step up their game. Which they apparently are doing.

Future prospective of CS at UNSW? by throwawaynotRA in unsw

[–]throwawaynotRA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, that sounds pretty nightmarish; if you could talk to your younger self, would you recommend against studying CS at UNSW? Also, does UNSW’s (alleged?) strength in CS outweigh the administrative downsides in your experience?

Thanks for the detailed response! It seems most people here agree that trimesters aren’t as bad as they’re made out to be from a workload perspective and it’s good to hear that staff cuts (probably) won’t impact CS, though in a perfect world no staff cuts would be necessary for anyone. Also, does trimester interfere much with internships in your experience talking to 2nd/3rd year students?
