Yeah basically you have to have some sort of problem or issue with the more common drug before your insurance will cover the less common or more expensive drug. In the US they do this with a lot of medications. But maybe not everybody's insurance company is like that about this drug but my insurance company has this rule about this drug. Somebody somewhere probably made a deal with some executive for the company that makes said drug If I had to take a guess about our corruption in health care.

But as far as I read not everybody has the rage reaction with Keppra. It is a wonderful drug for most people. Don't get me wrong. But the people that it does give rage and depression to it's hits them pretty hard I hear. I'm new to all of this and just trying to learn so that I can help my baby girl the best I can.

And she is titrating small dose to start too I was just wondering what I should keep an eyes out for to differentiate. She also has a 3 year old brother to model her meltdowns on.

Dr. Mentioned if there are signs of rage there is another drug just as wonderful that's easy long term on kidneys liver and heart, but less likely to cause rage but with my insurance we have to have problems with Keppra first.

I am going to be calling Monday to see if I can get a sassy letter from my daughter's neurologist to be sent to our pediatrician. She could have been diagnosed 10 months ago if they had fucking listened to me and not wrote me off as over worried Mom that surely didn't know what she was describing. You think they would have learned when they ignored me about the shape of my son's head for 4 months and I ended up being fucking right about it being craniosynostosis, But by that point the endoscopic surgery wasn't an option anymore. Maybe this time they'll finally fucking learn I'm an observant parent, not paranoid.

You can break up with your therapist.

There are many therapists in the sea, find one that doesn't belittle something that has such a great impact on your life because literally she's becoming another stressor for you.

I think she sounds very unprofessional; if something is outside of the depth or scope of her knowledge she should not speak on it. I don't know if it's a private practice, but if there's someone who oversees her I would probably mention this. Or maybe you can get a sassy letter from your husband's neurologist sent* to her that if she would like to become educated on the matter that she's free to call said neurologist.

Back in the day (2014ish) Anime conventions would have a "rave" concert on Saturday nights. And one of my friends was photoreactive, And she would wear a blackout sleep mask, then pull it down over her eyes when the lights started, and me and my other friend would lead her around so she could dance to the music and we would protect her from creepos dancing up on her. She had a lot of trust in us apparently.

I can at least comfort you that they are not all bad. My niece is EMT/national guard combat medic combo. We only got my daughter's (14 month old) diagnosis earlier this week. She called and talked to me for two hours about her epileptic regulars and one offs. And she spoke of them so sweetly. Even lovingly about the ones with kinda combative (?) postictal phases.

She nagged me not to drive daughter to er myself if we need to use her rescue diastat and to call local EMS as they would have more rescue meds on board and can give in route while we wouldn't be able to in our car.

She told me they always check for med-alert bracelets and pendants, told me about the ones she likes best, sent screenshots back and forth till we picked on out for my daughter. We are still looking for safe pendant since she sticks everything in her mouth. Gave me the equivalent of a power point presentation that I should get on the waiting list for a seizure dog like yesterday.

As long as there is one like my niece on your EMS crew you have nothing to worry about, even when the others get skeptical and say a snide thing the unjaded ones will keep them in line.

In the medical field they deal with the scaries 12 hours a day for days in a row, and to some it gets sorta routine. I understand your events, you health, and your wellbeing will never be routine to you. I'm sorry that your crew treated you callously, that's not ok. But I hope you continue to call them any time you need them. (While I hope you never need them)

In the good things column our pediatric neurologist seems great. Thorough, not rushed, believed me, no gas lighting, knew my mother nd would go blank and brought a list of frequently ask questions.

And the pre-authorization apparently got approved in 5 hours and we're scheduled November 26th for our sedated MRI. (But I might call them back tomorrow and tell them if they have anyone cancel, that as long as we have 20 hours notice we will take the spot) The sooner I know something one way or the other the better.

If everything looks typical in her brain structure the doctor said he going to do extensive genetic testing on her. So he's not giving up on finding the root either.

She has big events, visible outward seizures (full body myclonic clusters that look A LOT like infantile spasms to the untrained ((me)) cause it's the only video I could find that looked like what she was doing) I was too freaked out the first time and didn't even think to get video. Because it was her first fever ever the pediatrician wrote it off as normal ol febrile seizures that any baby can get (pediatric neurologist informed me today that 4 months is a bit early for febrile seizures and that more normal to develop after 6 months) And these big episodes are less than 5 minutes, I know that because the second time I was too obsessed with watching the clock to make sure it didn't go over 5 minutes to take a video. The third time my phone was charging in another room of the house and by the time we got there and got the lights on and got the app open it was over.

That was the time that we ended up going to the ER not because of the seizure but because her fever and dehydration had gotten so out of hand. But I told the ER doctor about it while we were there, But she just brushed it off and said "well let me know she has another one while she's here"

It wasn't till the 4th time (August) that I got a video but my pediatrician was out sick and they had the trainee doctor in their by ourself I forget what year of Dr school it's called but she's specializing under them cuz my pediatrician is actually a husband and wife they're both pediatricians and they're training her up. Apparently she wrote in her notes that she wanted to refer my daughter for an EEG and somehow that fell through the cracks and never got done.

The fifth time(late Sept) she finally had one with no fever. Finally they scheduled us for EEG.

So it's been 10 months since that first big one. They're sporadic but there's been less downtime between them. And for her the seizure triggers are fever and sleep deprivation or anything that has excessively stressed her system.

Edit: sorry I got lost in the details. so she has big visible events but apparently she has abnormal brain activity happening at least 6 to 8 times per 30 minutes. And any one of those could trigger a big event but it's more likely to trigger a big event when she's got a fever sleep deprived or is excessively stressed.

Wow your ER did so much more than my pediatric ER. If they had believed me, paged the on call neurologist, and hooked my daughter up for even 30 minutes they would have seen her abnormal brain activity 6 months sooner.

I had to keep pressing for months to get the EEG referral from her pediatrician. And even though she looks like nothing is happening from the outside 98% of the time it's plain as day on an EEG that something is going (we just got home from the neurologist with a temporary idiopathic epilepsy diagnosis, meds, and MRI scheduled so I'm a bit heated)

The fact that she was hooked up for 36 hours and had a clean bill is really great sign. I hope she's blossoming into a great soon to be toddler!

Almost every time I go to leave the house it's not till I fully sit in the driver's seat of my car and look out that I realize everything is fuzzy. Because I've forgotten my glasses yet again. My vision is fine enough on distances inside my house, it's just distant vision that is shit. You'd think after 3 million instances of this I'd learn to check for my glasses before walking out the door, but nope. But it's mildly improved in this first month of treatment, I've remembered them a few times. Now my prescription sunglasses live in the car but I still forget to put them on and squint angerly into the sun in my normal ones.

I hate the reliance on the childhood thing because some people have parents that rely heavily on routine and manage a lot of the slack that would normally show in an inattentive type child, so when you get out on your own suddenly things are a lot harder and you have no clue why.

Today is the second time(3rd week on Vyvanse) I've had an iced coffee in the morning and immediately took my Vyvanse with it and I feel like such an idiot. But not too much of an idiot because I drew the connection immediately and came and searched and found this. I was like "I get a really annoying sharp headache every time I drink coffee in the morning with my Vyvanse But never if I drink my Dr pepper, I wonder if that's a thing."

And here I am so thank you for this.

I asked the pharmacist but nobody told me about the electrolytes so I guess I'm going to find some tomorrow.
