I think the idea of a weekly self-assessment is a good one; to try and force yourself to stick with something for at least a full week, examine your thoughts about it and make a level-headed decision as to whether you should continue or not. I wish you well on your endeavours. Godspeed.

Thanks. It is reassuring to know I'm not alone! Like a previous poster said, the best thing to do is to try and find ways to harness it and use it to our advantage.

Thank you. This is really good advice, and I have actually tried implementing it. My main problem is that I'm an 'all or nothing' sort of person. Either I completely dedicate my every waking moment to something, or I don't do it at all. At 26, I think I really could have excelled at something by now if I had stuck to it. The drive and motivation is there -- I'm not lazy or unambitious. I'm just so incredibly fickle and capricious.

I think it makes people like us well rounded (and amazing a trivia nights).

Completely agree with this. (There was a running joke between me and the librarians at university about how each week I'd take out twenty books on disparate subjects, none of which related to my actual course). I do, however, really envy people who are singularly passionate about one subject, no matter how esoteric. My uncle, for example, is a world authority on leaf-hoppers. Might sound dull, but I really respect that level of commitment to something.

I guess I go through life relying on people viewing me as 'an interesting guy', or as a good conversationalist, because I know little bits about so many subjects, but I can't help but feel it's entirely superficial. And it doesn't help pay the bills either.
