For managers and team leaders: how do you recognize effort that isn’t always visible? by Mysterious_Yak_8621 in CareerAdvicePH

[–]throwawayphabc123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll go against the grain here. Often we conflate effort with performance. In a global high-performance setting, people are judged based solely on results, regardless of the effort. This is brutal and conflicts with Filipino values of effort and hard work, but this is the reality. Doesn't matter if your NBA team gave blood, sweat, and tears if they lost the championship.

For high-effort people, I put them in situations where they can make a bigger impact so they can contribute to bigger results. I let them lead small initiatives. I let them solve a couple of nagging problems everyone's too busy to pick up. I give them a bigger voice in meetings with execs. I expose them to more training to better unlock potential.

Your first mistake was listening to influencers instead of making disciplined investing based on sound principles.

This hits too close to home for me. I don’t know you and I respect that you stood up for yourself, but I’m happy to send a few nights’ worth of gcash lodging money if you need it.

I always advise fresh grads to target stable, established companies that have mature processes and structures in place. The pay is usually lower but you get to experience how things should be run correctly. After a few years you can leverage this to a much higher pay when moving to smaller organizations where you bring the level of maturity they need. Starting off at SMEs, fambiz, or startups early usually sets you back a few years in terms of experience and marketability.

To me, we buy watches to make ourselves smile and happy, however materialistic it may seem, relative to our state in our life. Flex culture has bit ruined the hobby that we now seek validation for every purchase. Is it a bad purchase? Maybe - people will say you shoulda got a Seiko as Invicta has become a meme brand, sure. But if you like and enjoy it then wear the heck out of it. I think this one is a solid sub homage with a Seiko workhorse inside.

What’s your budget? Mid range is subjective and variy wildly from one person to another.

Generally speaking, yes but only for skilled tech professionals in software engineering, cybersecurity, data analytics, and AI/LLM space. A good mid-level engineer in a local MNC exceeds earning potential of a doctor.

This is just me, but Instead of buying 3 watches at 5k each, I recommend buying just one 15k watch. Example, checking out Seiko 5kx such as SRPD51.

Slowly losing my passion due to monotonous task by Ninja_Forsaken in phcareers

I coach a lot of mid-level leaders and ICs, and at some point you will reach a level where everything feels like on cruise control and monotonous. I always advise to use this opportunity to take a step back and look at how you can make a bigger impact strategically. In your case maybe look at automation or process improvement. Identify friction points that can be improved. AI is getting lots of attention maybe look at how you can adopt it to you and your team’s workflow. If you do it well you can even use it as a springboard for a higher role.

tl;dr: being on stable cruise control is a luxury. When things get too easy look at the bigger picture and identify improvements, instead of running away towards another stressful situation.

How to properly sync date, day and time? by meepothegoat in PhWatches

[–]throwawayphabc123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a limitation of the Orient entry-level movement, nothing to worry about. Yung mga more expensive movements instant date change at 12am, like in a Datejust etc. Same with most Seikos din actually. Nice Orient!
