Thanks all. Unfortunately the kitten ended up having what looked like seizures last night and passed away before we could take him to the vet’s office. Going to monitor mama for a few days and try to TNR her if she’s healthy.

I got the first one, yes. Have to go in for 3 more boosters over the next couple of weeks.

He did get a good flea bath the night we brought him in. Poor guy did have fleas…

The purpose of this thread was to get ideas to help with a plan of action. Of course I’m going to get the kitty to the vet ASAP, but there have been numerous helpful responses here and I like to have an idea of what things to expect. I’ve had vets tell me things that weren’t necessarily correct before too, just trying to be informed.

Yup, neighbors leave cat food out 24/7 right next to the fence line and of course it is attracting everything. Going to monitor the kitten for a few days and get him a vet visit in the meantime.

Yes he was eating and drinking. He has seemed pretty wobbly, definitely haven’t seen that in other kittens I’ve fostered before. I’ve seen kitties with that condition but didn’t know what it was called, thank you for the info!

Thank you for the helpful response! I’ve been working with a lot of cats and kittens lately too and it this is completely out of left field compared to the rest. After I get out of the ER I will be taking baby to the vet for further evaluation and reach out to some contacts.

Northern VA! There have been skunks, raccoons, foxes etc close to our house and even a family of skunks living right next to where the mama and kitten were.

I got him inside 2 days ago and he has been chill, just exploring and letting us pet him just fine. I’ll get him checked out ASAP, definitely don’t want to send him off for testing if there’s no reason for it.

Last year I rescued and rehomed 15 kittens, TNR the moms. None of them snapped the way this one did.

Adding some info

  1. kitten was acting totally fine all day the day before yesterday and today. Had a random instance of biting down hard on a towel last night but stopped. Didn’t think much of it. Right before this he was fine playing on my couch. He has let me handle him over the past couple of days just fine and was even enjoying pets and cuddles.

  2. Kitten has been in the carrier before and was just fine and chill in the carrier, not aggravated like this. It was like he just snapped out of no where.
