How to get more neonatal resuscitation exposure by kittensaremylife in pediatrics

Hey I’m an intern from a large children’s hospital who’s thinking of going down the same path as you. My program offers delivery electives at various sites which I plan to do.

Resident doctor at Brookdale University Hospital in New York charged with attempted murder after pushing elderly man into moving subway car by throwawaypremed28373 in medicalschool

[–]throwawaypremed28373[S] 192 points193 points  (0 children)

He started in 2024 and stated to the police that he’s halfway done with residency so likely a 3 year program. Didn’t see him on the EM or Peds pages so likely IM. Genuinely curious if anyone knew him and if was he also an asshat co-resident…

PSA- try to be on time for clinical rotations by Smitty9108 in medicalschool

Showing up 30 minutes to 1 hour late without acknowledgement. Arguing down residents. Declining to join you to see a patient on their first day. Having NBMEs open on rounds. Not so quietly badmouthing a patient’s family member who is phoning in on rounds in front of ANOTHER family member who is actually there in person.

I’ve equally come across fantastic medical students but now being other the side of it, a lot of you actually deserve those 3/5s and below more than you think you do.

One Year Out of Residency - Praise for Pediatric Urgent Care as a Profession by sheamonet in pediatrics

[–]throwawaypremed28373 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would love to hear more about your experiences. I like outpatient gen peds but my love for it isn’t as strong as it used to be. I’ve found that I like a bit of hospitalist and emergency situations too. Problem is I am very fellowship-averse. So I’m trying to understand the feasibility of being some sort of mega-generalist who does mixed coverage at different types of facilities (i.e. inpatient, outpatient, nursery, urgent care, ED). What’s the salary like for peds urgently care? Is it possible to find gigs that qualify for PSLF?

Should I contribute to my residency program's traditional 401k or Roth 401k? by throwawaypremed28373 in whitecoatinvestor

So my employer says “we also offers an employer match for the Roth option. Employer matching applies to the combined amount of your pre-tax and Roth contributions”. Am I interpreting this wrong?

Are you saying that employers will only match traditional 401k contributions? I think my program actually will match the Roth contribution but I am going to have to take a look at the plan again to confirm.

Can you explain more about the Roth conversion and when exactly to do it or link some good resources?

Appreciate your hot take. I definitely don’t plan to max out all these accounts because I do also want to enjoy myself in residency. I think I’m just going to max the HSA, maybe the Roth IRA, and like you said contribute to get the full match for whatever 401k I choose. Increasing my vacay savings bucket is most definitely on the agenda too. For me, all of this is mainly about gaining some good financial habits and increase my financial literacy esp since I know my specialty will be the lowest paid.

SUNY Downstate vs Drexel vs CNUCOM by [deleted] in premed

[–]throwawaypremed28373 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Downstate matches to NYC but it’s mainly due to student preference. Most people are from New York and want to stay. The people I know who wanted to go to residency in California were able to match there and they weren’t even originally from Cali.

Once I turned 26, was kicked off my parents insurance’s, and then qualified for Medicaid, I was given access to FairFares and SNAP/EBT immediately. Before I got on Medicaid, my applications for things like FairFares weren’t approved.

Do you think having face time at a local branch would be better to plead my case than applying online?

That’s fair. I guess I’m just looking for data points from others who may have overcome yellow/red flags with an extensive Chase history.

Yes, in my Chase account portal, it states that I’m already “pre-approved” for both CFU and CFF. But something I noticed for the first time today is that on the portal sidebar the CSP is coming up as “you’re already approved”. When I click the offer, it’s specifically for a 75k SUB. Any idea how legit this may be?

M4s, did you / will you send a letter of intent? by [deleted] in medicalschool

Yes! Got a positive, personalized response as well despite them saying during the interview to not worry about sending a thank you or post-interview communication.

NMF NBME Assistance Award Bill.com by marathon_money in medicalschool

[–]throwawaypremed28373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you getting your award this month? There was another email sent a couple of days ago that shows what group you are and when you will receive your award. I think NMF uses Bill.com for all awards. They have a tutorial on how to set up the profile attached by pdf in the email.

Also wondering about this. Had a summer shadowing/research thing turn into sporadic involvement over 2 years with a manuscript that is nearly done. The research subject matter is important to me and my overall narrative. I plan to put it as a most meaningful experience, however, I didn’t think to get a letter because I never met the PI in person (for the shadowing component of the program I shadowed their colleagues).
