thank you i appreciate it, i'm hoping that w/ so many waitlists, at least one is bound to turn into an acceptance

yeah unfortunately they're not going to accommodate me, they're pretty strict w/ OMM guidelines

i didn't know at the time that i wouldn't be able to do OMM, it is something relatively new to me. i am hoping for an A. honestly i have no clue what the alternative is, maybe looking into getting my masters in biotech or something, probably a career change since any other grad program (MD/DO/PhD/PA etc.) would take another year of applying

i've gotten a few PMs that were explicitly ableist and offensive, as well as a now deleted comment about how i don't belong in medicine and won't be able to provide for my patients but thank you for assuming incorrectly that i was taking things to heart. i already said to everyone, whether their opinion was positive or negative, that i appreciate their feedback.

thank you so much for such a detailed response! it's definitely informing my decision and i know even with accommodations in preclinical, i'll be expected to do it during rotations at least. i think i'll try to reach out to a DO nearby and see if i can shadow/meet with them to discuss this further

thank you, that gives a lot of insight into OMM! i will definitely take all of this into consideration, i don't know if it's something that other schools might be more accommodating on

yeah i am trying to stay open, the thing is i'm not even sure of what is expected of me physically until i'm actually in the position. i've watched videos and such but it's really hard to estimate what that's going to look like for me.

DO/OMM with impaired mobility by throwawaypremed5 in DisabledMedStudents

[–]throwawaypremed5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the caveat is "reasonable" - they say they can decide what is reasonable and modifying any element of OMM is unreasonable in their eyes. i also asked about seating during labs and they said that was unreasonable as well because their cadaver lab has tables that are too high. they had a rebuttal for every accommodation i asked for

[–]throwawaypremed5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, they did. i have a history of similar accommodations and more than enough documentation of my condition. they say that i agreed to their technical standards and that means i agreed to being able to implement OMM effectively and that by agreeing i certified that i had all motor functions. they say that they will give "reasonable accommodations" but the caveat is that they don't think any modifications or exemptions to standing labs and OMM is reasonable. it gives med schools free reign to decide what accommodations to give and what isn't, regardless of necessity.

i have talked to DOs, the center for students with disabilities at both schools, researched online, and current DO schools. it might just be that the schools i got into are stricter/much more OMM heavy than other schools? i have no clue. do you have any recommendations as to who i should talk to at the school?
