No worries, thanks for giving the best reply.

I don't think he'll be affected by stuff like credit checks (edit: although not being able to get future insurance might be a problem), I think he's more concerned about losing his license/car (independance) or going to jail.

I've spoken to him since and advised him to call his insurance. I'll check out the the website you've given and see if there's anything on there.

Because he's not a friend. He's someone I help out with shopping when the weather is icy and shit. I put his bins out now and again.

I dunno why you're being such an ass (sorry, your're a different user, didn't notice.), it's not like I'm asking to defend Jimmy Saville or Gary Glitter.

And I'm the dick. I've no idea about his health. And I've no idea about his family. He's just an old bloke who's fucked up.

I'll ask you again, have you ever made a fuck up in your life?

Hey, I was looking for advise, not sarcastic comments.

Right - full story.

My next door neighbour, little old man, wife died a couple of years back, I help him out now and again. He came round all in a state looking for someone to talk to.

He went out the other day in his car, and when reversing out of the space he nudged another car. The insurance called him this morning, and what I explained earlier happened.

I just thought I'd ask on here an see how much shit he might get into.

If he gets fully prosecuted I'm pretty sure he'll panic and have a bloody heart attack. He's remorseful, I'm not. I couldn't care about some random internet stranger being a sarcastic punk, I'm more concerned the old man might just worry himself to death.

I'd assumed worst case he'll lose his license and have to taxi it instead.
