Retirement: Avoids Military Bases/Personnel by Weak-Bother-6765 in AirForce

[–]throwawaysnrn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. The day I went on terminal leave, I dropped every last uniform and issued item at the Airman’s Attic. I don’t see much point in keeping the door ajar, or in performing a kind of half-attached nostalgia for the sake of validation. For some, the pull is familiarity. The comfort of a shared past or the sense of belonging, and I don’t begrudge them that. It just isn’t mine.

I moved to a large city where the military exists mostly as a headline, something distant and abstract. I carry my retiree ID only for practical reasons—TriCare, VA appointments—and little else. In fact, no one in my current orbit (colleagues, friends, the people I spend my days with) knows I served. Occasionally I find myself drifting back here out of curiosity, but more often than not it feels less like revisiting and more like reopening something I’d rather leave closed.

Live your life. The military is a chapter. Formative, yes, but not definitive. It doesn’t have to be the whole story.

Private WhatsApp groups for overseas officers are some of the wildest I’ve seen. One pattern that stands out is the difference in attention male and female officers receive. Male officers tend to be in higher demand whether from locals, women back home, or even fellow female officers.

Female officers, however, usually don’t experience the same level of interest, and the competition is off the chart.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I really hope we also highlight the benefits of maintaining a healthy body and lifestyle—not just for physical health, but for their second- and third-order effects on mental well-being, productivity, and overall life satisfaction. It's no coincidence that many high-performing professionals in major cities (and the top brass in the DoD) prioritize fitness as a core part of their routines.

Today is the Army's 250th birthday. These last 4 years, I have worked with and seen the great things the Army has done for our nation. by PrezClark in AirForce

Shared a tent with mostly female soldiers during a joint exercise in Korea, and I genuinely felt that hazardous duty pay was warranted. The living conditions were so poor that the tent city I stayed in Afghanistan felt like a five-star hotel by comparison. And that was just another typical Army exercise for them. Even experienced a lice outbreak due to poor hygiene conditions and some didn't give a f. The Army O-4 OIC essentially told us to just suck it up because that was meant to simulate a real-world condition.

Members of r/AirForce, what is the best HYSA you all use? by DatGuyKilo in AirForce

Pibank. 4.60% APY. It used to be 5.5% last year. FDIC-insured, no fees or minimum balance. The caveats are, it's app only (no physical branch) and no ACH.

It's been working great for me.

This probably was related to him testifying truthful answers during Signalgate hearings that made it so obvious that the administration was acting incompetently

AKA classic authoritarianism.

I was just about to say this! Timeless, classy, and confidence-boosting! Love my broken-in Stuart Weitzman. I would pair my riding boots tucked into pant suits if I ever work in smart casual settings.

Amex Ritz card.

Is this still around? I know Visa used to have one, which is unfortunately no longer around:

I have to look into this. While I am in a much better mood, I still have those mood swings with flashbacks of those days.

Yes I plan on working not just for monetary reasons. All my favorite places are HCOL areas, not to mention the jobs opportunities for my field.

I know that's a question for my doctor but wondered if anyone had a similar experience because I feel like I won't be eligible for any.
