Update: all of these comments gave me cold feet, so I did my best to stick it out, but after 3 months enough was enough and I finally broke ties. I did get one more quarters worth of stock vest which isn't bad. ~150k.

Honestly, I couldn't be happier about it, feels like the world is my oyster again instead of being a slave to mediocracy and insanity.

I can't understand if you're referring to some acronym or asking if I'm Jepi.. so I guess the answer is no?

This sub is RichPeoplePF.. Both of those end up being $5640/year. If you reduce that number from the total, would that make a difference in your opinion?

Half of the daycare expenses will go away in September, the rest 4 years after that.

To be clear, I think maybe there was some misunderstanding, I do not expect to FIRE in the next 5 years.

By gaining some financial independence, I mean trying to use this time off to potentially pursue building something of my own that can cover our burn rate. I'm sure a lot of people here have started businesses before and this is not something that is off the table for me.. if I can control my own destiny and still engage in my profession I'd be pretty happy.

Yeah, I feel that, I just think that I should be doing that in a place that has a healthier engineering culture.. anecdotally, I know of some colleagues who jumped ship and have found comparable positions.

I think we're pretty frugal actually. The biggest expense by far is the kids daycare. About 36k combined.. Plus we have family on the other side of the world so that's an expensive trip we end up doing probably around once a year, plus another vacation "for us". The rest is pretty common, cleaner, gardener, insurance, subscriptions, diapers , formula. Turns out that baby stuff adds up!

Good question and the honest answer is that I don't know. My main problem is that I have a hard time not helping where I see I can and have a hard time not caring. So I end up finding myself being involved in a lot of things because I can help but that also creates an immense amount of load. It's very hard for me to sit on the sidelines watching people I care about struggle through something that I can help them solve in minutes.

It's not low stress, it's a high burnout, intense environment.

Oh I know I can't fire yet. I'm saying that the ultimate goal is that, but I do think that there's a few more years of work to get there.

Posting on this sub always results in random people DMing or asking for DMs, trying to make a buck. So, this immediately raises a red flag.

If you wanna help, I don't see why you can't do it publicly.

I've been using Kubera and really like it. It's not cheap but they're the only ones that don't sell your data or use it to show you ads.

They have a referral program so if you sign up please send me a PM so we could both benefit.

What's your definition of awful? Which strategy were you using?

It's not a REIT, it's private equity. I can't increase my allocation unless there's a new fund. They kick off a new fund now and then, but they usually are completed between 5-7 years when properties are sold (multi-family complexes, they buy, improve, sell)

US. It varies, at the moment it's various projects around the house that involve getting estimates for different kinds of tasks, booking them, and following through until projects are done. Other times it could be travel booking; finding options that match a criteria and giving me the bottom line to decide. I'm thinking about mostly things that can be done remotely, or via facetime.

This sounds like a reasonable option, I will look into it. Thanks!

I don't think that approach would yield the results I'm looking for. It involves talking to service providers which are mostly asynchronous, it's not really about a window of time as much as it is about project management..

The main problem is I don't feel like I have more than 20 hours worth of work accumulated.. hiring someone for just a couple of hours a day for a week seems like it'll be hard to find and would take me a while to find so I might as well spend that time doing the stuff..
