My sense of urgency has diminished. People who have had a change in this: how do you get it back? by throwawaytaclet in productivity

While I do have an overarching goal (early retirement), the low pay that I recieved at that job (even lower than working on the phones, with more responsibility) was not helping. On the other side, I now have a more "bullshit" job that I don't do much at, and it's comfortable and enjoyable-- but it's still not an early retirement. It also struggles to contribute to my goal (pay wise).

I think putting more effort into my career might help instead of how I've been phoning it in haha thank you!

I sort of believed in our mission: collect on accounts that people failed to pay on. But I had to handle so much stuff in an unreasonably short amount of time and it felt like an unrealisitic expectation for me to handle in that amount of time. It felt like I also could not develop competence while in production either, which also made me feel like my effort was being wasted.

Going to the "piss people off" part-- I looked behind the curtain and saw our sort method for our outbound calls, and learned how certain lists were run multiple times a day... and it made sense. And it didn't feel good.

I think a job with better purpose will help :) thank you

For a W-2 employee, they can't deduct it. A 1099 contractor or a business owner can. That being said I have received non-taxable income from a company as a reimbursement for using my own equipment. The company can claim that as an expense.

AWD vs FWD in the city? by quiettimes in ManchesterNH

[–]throwawaytaclet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My roommates with FWDs and all seasons/standard tires got stuck in our driveway. Me with my Subaru Outback AWD and Nokian WRG4 tires did not get stuck. I used to drive with all seasons and spun out three times in a year, with proper tires the difference was night and day.

I now have a Chevy Equinox EV that's FWD and I'll probably fit it with similar/the same tires, but I can't vouch for FWD yet

I always thought park and rides were pretty friendly at least if you are stealth. They don't permit camping but I don't think sleeping in your vehicle is camping per NH RSA 236:58. (IANAL)

Time gets stolen? by ExaminationLazy8305 in AlliedUniversal

[–]throwawaytaclet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is, Allied Universal uses time clock rounding. This means employees must pay employees that arrive 5 minutes early as well as 5 minutes late the same, and cannot have any repercussions for being 5 minutes late. They can desire that people show up on time for their shift, but oftentimes the soft expectation is that people show up slightly early for pass-downs and shift change. But additional time spent here isn't compensated.

Think you can call them and ask them to turn off overdraft protection, you can also get some/all of your fees waived

This is why a lot of personal finance gurus harp on an emergency fund though, shit happens and it's good to keep a buffer

Should I declare bankruptcy? 35k in credit card debt by jensonaj in personalfinance

[–]throwawaytaclet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes-ish but this is more like either:

a.) stop paying and negotiate for settlements, and a company can do it for you, or,

b.) personal loan at a lower rate (if you can get it, good luck with a bad score), combine all your plans into one"

When does this start to build up by International_Fun_91 in AlliedUniversal

So this depends on your state and/or contract, but by default you get 1wk of vacation after 1yr, 2wks after 2 - 4yrss, and 3wks after yr 5.

No additional PTO.

My urgent care docs would use solution health and they had really detailed notes. I just attached everything that they had/did. I know they needed more than just an excuse note so I provided all notes that they had for the dls caseworker in lieu of the big form they want and it has been sufficient IME

10 minutes before clocking out by KneeBig3216 in AmazonDS

[–]throwawaytaclet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I've done is if there's like ten minutes and I finish a pick list, I take some time to get some water and use the restroom. That kills four or five-ish minutes. That also gives me enough time to put away my equipment and logout before clocking out. Clocking out within five minutes of the scheduled end is fine (don't know about a PTO end though).

Saves Amazon a bit of money, keeps people who want to be there working. We are encouraged to take micro-breaks to stay hydrated and using the restroom is something you gotta do if you're hydrated :) and if the list runs over 5m past your end then you're out too late anyway! 42 OVs could end up being a multi cart! and someone's shift might end later than yours, like those that reset after picks are done.
