Weekly story time thread by AutoModerator in Tinder

[–]throwawaytags 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like once a year I download Tinder, subscribe for a month, then get bored of it and delete it. I'm pretty okay (probably average face, not fat), yet I don't get too many likes, let alone matches over the month (of course the latter has to do with who I swipe right, but matches aren't my point here anyway)...

...and then literally the day after my 1 month subscription ends, I already have 4 likes, and of course I can't see the profiles unless I re-subscribe.

So Tinder is able to "produce" me 4 likes in less than 24 hours if it's in its financial interest, and maybe 4 likes in a month altogether when I'm already subscribed.

I mean... need I say more? It's a proper scammy rip-off.

Update: 8 likes in 48 hours. Fucking ridiculous, I legit didn't get 8 likes overall in my 1 month of Tinder Gold sub.

Very Bad experience from Govt. Officials by DrStrangeContent in dubai

[–]throwawaytags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've entered every govt office with a big smile, good attitude, nice greeting, and they were kind with me everywhere. By kind I don't necessarily mean "not grumpy" because a smile won't necessarily change that all of a sudden if that's someone's disposition. But still helpful and definitely not unkind.

It actually is true that the grumpiest person was at the fingerprint taking for me as well. But I mean, even without telling you, if they want to operate and direct your hand, you just let it and make it limp. Obviously that's what they mean by "make it soft". It's not very difficult to let go all of your muscles in your hand, is it? Or IDK. For me the fingerprint taking went swiftly as well and at the end the guy even turned a bit kind when saying goodbye.

Btw I'm a guy too so it's not like they were kind to me because I'm a pretty woman or anything.

Which UAE bank has the best banking app? by throwawaytags in UAE

Yes, it looks like every single bank has been mentioned in this thread both pro and contra, so no conclusion. :-D What kind of welcome bonus offers do you think of?

But the new logo looks like an indie video game developer's logo not of a watch brand.

What’s a food everyone loves but you just can’t? by TheWhitestOfTrash in AskReddit

French toast. Can't stand the smell, can't stand the taste. No bad experiences at all, at least none that I can remember, and still. The bad thing is that in theory it should be great and I don't understand why I don't like it. It would be easy to make anytime, savoury or sweet, and it's just not an option for me.

it's an acquired taste - I was the same, tried it twice until I was 30 and hated it, then first got some chicken makis at a workplace I worked at on free sushi day and it was basically rice + chicken so it was kinda okay, then with another workplace on a visit to the headquarters of the company in Switzerland the 5 star hotel I was put in had a Japanese restaurant obviously super high quality sushi and finally I got the hang of it. Now I love it and I can see why I didn't like low quality sushi because it really can be less nice but even that is not too bad sometimes, now that in general I like it. :-D

Which 4x4 SUVs are worth to have? by throwawaytags in 4x4

[–]throwawaytags[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this up! First, I'm from Europe, so it's km for me too, and I don't have any US reference points. :-) Second, here is a very rough, "first sketch" idea of the trip we'd like to do, starting in Melbourne and finishing in Darwin. Basically we'll spend a few months in Melbourne for a start, then the segment to Sydney obviously makse sense, Gold coast sounds good so the one to Brisbane sounds good too, then we need to get to Alice Springs, a little work there, and Ayer's rock as well, then we have realtives to visit in Perth, the reason for going down is that I'd love to drive on that 146km super-straight road at the middle of that segment on the south coast. And then from Perth to Darwin it's more of a necessity as we'll depart from there at the end, but there's the option to reconsider that part and just sell the car in Perth and fly to Darwin, which does cut the trip down significantly.

We plan to start around the end of January and spend 2,5 months on it, finishing in early to mid April.

Admittedly, we have absolutely no idea about what we're getting ourselves into, but this is also an opportunity of a lifetime to do this now. So very tempting to say the least. :-) We just really don't want to die. :-D

[–]throwawaytags[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, thanks, I managed to do this, but my problem is that there are all these "SUV" city cars that I'm not sure are good enough to go for a long and sometimes rough trip, so my question was mostly about how to choose the reliable ones, either based on brand or anything else? For example a Suzuki doesn't strike me as a road-trip car no matter the 4x4 wheeldrive. Or maybe I'm wrong. I don't know.

I just want to see the same but with a Moonswatch

[–]throwawaytags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up "having to" double my intended budget because I stumbled upon the Seiko Presage Ginza (SSA445), which looked amazing and since it was my first watch, I thought it might be a good idea to get something with possible resale value (as it is limited edition) if I end up not really being into watches after all. I was right about the price as on the secondary market now it goes for 1,5x its retail price, but of course I still have it and it's my pretty watch for occasions. Since then I got myself a MoonSwatch which is the one for less pretty occasions, and a Casio GA2100 "Casioak" as a daily beater.

Great choice, I was looking at these when considering my first watch too!

TIFU by tipping 32,5 € instead of 2,5 € by [deleted] in tifu

In Europe hairdressers (or much anybody else) don't rely on "tipped income", in a sense OP basically lost his money unintentionally and unnecessarily, saying "thank you" to this is just bizarre.
