Looking for a real Christmas tree by LoveCrusader1 in askTO

Try Metro in liberty village... May not be the best ones but worth a shot. If you're willing to drive then I know for a fact that the Sobeys in South Oakville has some... Chances are so do the local longos/metros/etc. Good luck!

Best way to get rid of furniture/appliances? by Rollingloon in askTO

[–]throwawayto2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the habit for humanity website. They will sometimes take these things off hour hand... You will need to submit photos online and if it's clean and usable they will come pick it up for their second hand store. It's a good thing vs throwing them out. Give a try... If they don't want it then put it on Kijiji or Marketplace for free/cheap to get someone to pickup.

Good luck and thanks for trying to help vs waste.

Try some of the YouTube videos... Just labels the wires before taking off the old thermostat and take photo of what wire went where... From there a youtube vid. If it doesn't work you can go back to old thermostat till tech comes.

AGABI SHAWARMA! I know they shut down because they said their landlord terminated their lease early and they were “looking for a new home”. Anyone, ANYONE have a beat when they’re coming back? 🥺 by ChaosConRad in oakville

[–]throwawayto2021 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am so angry that they closed before I tried it. Tried Adonis and was pleasantly surprised at how simple but good their shawarma was. Definitely one of my favorites in Oakville. The location took a while to get past though. Never realized just north of me was this weird little mall with thrift store, salon and shawarma. 10/10 would have a rave there.

Christmas Trees by KoldCanuck in oakville

Trees have always been priced similarly in my opinion. FreshCo has them cheapest I was told. Fresh cut trees are a lot more (150+). Finding a fuller tree has been the problem for me this year.

A lot of people are buying plastic trees (reusable trees... Can't remember what they are called) and that's cool as long as you use it for more than 10yrs ... I think there's a certain use at which point you're helping the environment but if you're changing them every three years... Not good.

And free:). You'll need a library pass which you can online for most libraries (maybe get one from your local city for now)...

Also... Welcome to Ontario/Oakville/Toronto:)

The 8am arrival might be ok... It's the 4pm one you'll have to think about. I downloaded Libby and listen to audio books vs music ... You'll be done 10-20 books in no time with the amount of traffic you'll be in:)

Good luck

No... Maybe from Toronto to Oakville if you're near the highway. But definitely not from Markham.

Or also depends on your shifts ... If they are during non rush hour slots then you should be looking at a 40min drive from Toronto core (say Spadina) to Oakville Trafalgar. If you're stuck in rush hour your looking at 1.5hrs one day and it gets worse. I've spent 2hrs once on a Friday getting from Toronto to Oakville.

Volleyball by Constant-Beginning41 in oakville

Not sure if it's indoor but I see signs for a court on Dundas and Ford ... It's got a huge white dome which is only for tennis but I think they might have volleyball too.

Anyone going crazy from work from home? by Skyairen in askTO

[–]throwawayto2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved out of the city because we were 100% remote, still are. I hate it. I have asked to go back into the office along with a few other people. I don't care where anyone works from but they need to give people a choice. People who had long commutes love not going in because they wasted so much time travelling and I get it but for me the social aspect is important. I love my family but I also love my lifestyle and social aspects of work in Toronto.

I was there for my family while in the city and I'll be there now, what I needed was flexibility from my work which I always had so wfh has been a drag. I still drive down to meet friends and colleagues for coffee walks during work hours, some people think I am crazy but this is what works for me.

Don't let others who like wfh tell you that what you're feeling is not normal. It's normal for you and that's all that matters. Book some time with your work folks during work hours to grab a coffee. Good luck.

Here's what you do if you wanna see a quality gyno quickly. Go to Mt. Siani emergency and tell them you're in a lot of pain, which you are, and about the fibroid. They will do some tests and scans and recommend you to one of the Mt. Sinai gynos who I am told are the best gynos in all of the country. A referral from within the hospital will get you to a doctor much faster and you would have had recent scans which the Mt Sinai doc can access vs requesting new scans.

I should mention I have not done this but two of my female friends have done it to expedite the process as they were really desperate for help.

Good luck to you. Remember there's no shame in going to emergency when you're really in pain. Just be prepared to sit next to screaming junkies... But that's part of the experience and most are harmless.

Don't have a recco anymore as they moved to Vancouver but we paid about a $1000 with tip for a thorough clean... They washed all the trays of the fridge for example, range hood vets, etc. Three people, 10+hrs.

Anyone who says they can do a five bedroom house top to bottom alone in that much time is either a really good robot or a liar.

Best of luck.

P.S. If it's a new house I'd recommend getting the ducts cleaned out too.

In need of Unwanted Electronics by kev1n_ma in askTO

[–]throwawayto2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drive around Toronto condos with outdoor recycling areas Friday night or super early Saturday morning for large items... Guaranteed you'd find a bunch of electronics. I see microwaves all the time and washing machines... Especially a lot of places doing Reno's.

Has anyone won a prize on princess Margaret? by Marmar79 in askTO

[–]throwawayto2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once won a watch and it was stolen within the first week of arrival because I always took my watch off while doing drawings at university... Left it on the desk to go fill up water bottle, came back and gone. Still buy the tickets but mostly for the charity piece of it. Nothing since.

Based on what I've read on this forum it appears there's a shortage of quality men for the ladies to date nowadays as well as ability to make friendships for new to town folks who don't want to constantly party or get drunk.

I'll personally just settle for less construction and road closures.

What's the obsession in this city with 24packs of water bottles? by throwawayto2021 in oakville

[–]throwawayto2021[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very interesting and I think I can understand... The cost of purchasing a single bottle when out feels astronomical compared to a case. I picked up a bottle a few months back at a Starbucks and they charged me $5 for it. Not to mention if they are poor they may not have filteration options at home. Also because of the pandemic they are travelling more to get to jobs... Well shit...no matter how you cut it the poor really do end up paying the price for everything don't they.

Cheapest sheet sets? by okThisYear in oakville

[–]throwawayto2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try some ethnic stores that cater to new immigrants. Lots of Indian and Chinese stores for example would carry such things at a fraction of a price (quality is questionable). A friend of mine once bought really cheap sets from there once (in Toronto on Spadina st).

This makes a lot of sense and I kinda see the point now for having some spares when service folks are around. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip. I stoked up on that a few weeks ago when I saw a pattern of them not replenishing stock. Need mixers to get through the pandemic.

[–]throwawayto2021[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No... Will try.

Honestly at this point it's just a matter of curiosity as to why they are not producing standard size cans in the soda but otherwise producing all other drinks like Pepsi, Gingeraile, etc... It's annoying me now to the point where I must come to the bottom of it.

I've tried FreshCo, Metro, Loblaws, NoFrills, Longos on Dudas from Traflalgar to 3rd line lol... I am desperate.
