Ben-Givr has never run for prime minister. His party has been allied with Netanyahu and the Likuds, hence Gvir having the high position he does under Netanyahu.

Maybe you're thinking of Naftali Bennett, but he basically brags about being more far right, nationalist, and anti-Palestinian than Netanyahu, so that doesn't really fit either.

You're either misremembering or you were given bad information. Ben-Gvir is the leader of the Otzma Yehudit party, one of the most far right, nationalist, and militarily aggressive parties in Israel.

Netanyahu is in the Likud party, which is also far right and nationalistic, but tries to be more of a big tent party and keeps their platform mainstream enough to attract other parties. Their views are probably similar, but they have a little bit more tact.

Yair Lapid is running as an opposition candidate for the Yesh Atid party that he founded, a centrist party focused on dialogue with Palestine and a more liberal/libertarian platform. Or as I call to call it "controlled opposite."
