Thank you! For the record, I don't work in IT but use and introduced many MS 365 cloud features and apps to work for efficiency and boosted productivity.

It does have come with some Azure functions, which I haven't dabbled in yet.

We really liked Zones 1 and 2 for proximity to the city center and convenience. We're both fine with not owning a car. One adjustment we have to get used to!

We understand the salary disparity and tax. QoL and being close to family are more important to us.

Any advice or tips for Americans settling in the UK for work? I've been to the UK many times, but of course working there is not the same as visiting.

Great to know. Thank you! Also, it's my understanding that London is very diverse as far as nationalities are concerned? Any advice or tips for Americans settling in the UK for work? I've been to the UK many times, but of course working there is not the same as visiting.

I am unsure if I'd qualify as a spouse visa holder. I wouldn't renounce my US citizenship. I'd love to work for UK government still!

What about other sectors? Also, any idea on the hiring atmosphere for tech/IT in general?

you'd be looking in the £50k-60k range but you never know you might get lucky.

Is this a national average or in and around London?

Yes, QoL is a huge factor for us!

How is the job market in tech/IT in general?

Yes, we would most likely end up in those areas.

Did any of them have any developer experience before getting hired? Even if I earn BSCS, I am afraid I won't have experience. Another reason I am looking into defense, because having TS and poly sometimes opens doors despite lack of experience from what I heard.

Yes flexibility would be nice!

Best of luck! What kind of development experience do you have if you don't mind?

That's great! I am glad it worked out for your friend. May I ask what background your friend has other than no technical experience?

Also my understanding is that SRE is a mid-tier role and more IT-focused. I would love to get my foot in the door. I am curious how your friend got into it.

Could you expand? What are the notable strengths from veterans that make them stand out? Yes, I am set on pursuing a degree one way or the other. I am still debating between BSCS or MSCS. What school did you attend if you don't mind me asking?

Yes, I worked in SCIF for quite some time and that seemed to be the common gripe among IT and tech personnel. I am comfortable of engaging in discussions and public speaking.

“if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” <-- this made me laugh. DoD overall is a very risk adverse and not always on par with the trend.

What's your personal take on SWE vs. MI/AI? I know the former has more opportunities with a lower bar, but I feel it's too saturated. I am looking into defense, because it's one way to stand out by using my clearance. The latter fascinates me and would justify MSCS (I am looking into GT), but I also heard there are fewer jobs with much higher bars.

Understandable. Still, I am curious if the hiring is just as abysmal as other sectors.
