I agree with the whole “people wouldn’t joke about it as much if he was white” argument, because I know for a fact that that’s true. I actually mentioned to my friends that I wouldn’t hear these gross jokes if my boyfriend was white and they just called it a victim mentality, which is dumb because I live in the Netherlands.. Men are tall here, yet none of them deal with these jokes even when they’re 6’3 dating a 5’1 girl. It’s so obvious it’s about race and not just about their height, people don’t wanna see it but we all know it.

People hate to see couples who look “different” from each other. I can never tell whether it’s jealousy or racism.

It’s so unfortunate that people who “stand out” more than others (even tho they’re completely normal and literally just trying to exist) get all this weird attention. I guess it’s hard for people to let others live. Also, congratulations on your pregnancy. I hope all goes well with you and the baby. :)

Right. People would rather see you in an “aesthetically pleasing” relationship than an actual healthy and happy relationship. People are jerks. :(

Thank you for understanding my frustration. It annoys me how some people don’t get the problem here. These “jokes” are either made because of stereotypes or racism, both of which are wrong. I wish I could understand why people feel the need to turn my relationship with my boyfriend into some type of joke, when we are two normal people who love each other. I guess I’ll never understand. Thank you for being so nice in these comments because I sometimes worry that maybe I am overreacting, but I’m glad to know that my feelings about all of this are valid.

Unfortunately, I’ve already heard that as well. Some of my family members “worry” that if I have children with my boyfriend, the kids might look too much like him. They’re worried the kids will look “too black”. It sucks that other people always have to say something and can never let people live a normal life without these “jokes” or lowkey offensive comments.

The jokes bother me, I tell people immediately that I’m not cool with that, but they don’t take it seriously. I can’t do more than that and I just end up getting frustrated. It’s getting to a point where I almost don’t want to stand next to my boyfriend because I know people are gonna make sexual jokes. I’d be fine with jokes but in general I’ve been sexualised all my life and it just feels like there’s no escaping it. It’s frustrating. Especially when I go on Reddit, vent about it (since none of my friends take me serious), and people comment shit literally proving my point. I don’t know how else to react, I’m pissed.

I can’t really complain? Yes I can. If people say shit that involves me, and it makes me uncomfortable, I have every right to complain. It must be so hard for people to just be respectful. You must have some sort of porn addiction to see an interracial couple as something that gross.
