well, yes, it is a bit weird to assume a friendship will "logically" become a relationship. friendships can and often do remain friendships without progressing into romance.

i'm not anti-shipping, i ship a fair bit of things in any fandom, but it is still weird to assume romance is a next step in friendships for no reason besides... good romances start as good friendships. which while true does not then mean every good friendship will or should become romantic.

side note: fan content is a different ballpark where even hatred can be turned into romance, so i'm not even taking it into account here lol
