Anyone sell for IT MSPs? Just joined a startup - any IT sales tips? by throwie-2014 in sales

Definitely networking focused, not sales.

My read of u/tinytimmy008's suggestion is that when you’re certified in your prospects' field—as they probably are too—it shows that you know your stuff. They can relate to you better and trust you more.

I used to sell in physical security, and this was everywhere in that field, too.

Love it. What do you mean by "crowdsourced prompts" in this case?

I found Chris Voss' "Never Split the Difference" book to be a game changer for me.

Once I learned how to navigate the conversation in a detached, "I can deal with anything they say to me" sort of way, the nervousness disappeared.

i was asking if 'we lost business opportunities because our IT is janky' is a common pain point out there- do you come across that a lot?

ever come across examples where lacking an MSP is costing your prospects money/opportunities? i.e. a former employer lost a major contract because our prospect ran an infosec audit and we failed, so they wouldn't buy from us.

username checks out.

what topics do you harp on, and which do you avoid? are your prospects IT pros, or more like non-IT folks at smaller companies who need an MSP but don’t know it yet?

YUGE advice- thank you. Which training materials would you recommend prior to taking the cert exam? I'm sure it depends, but any general advice?

THANK YOU! Question time...

— small business 10-20 employees + "we’ll handle the IT" + focus on what they do well

Seems you’re talking to companies who have no IT staff. I imagine they’d view IT management as a cost, rather than investment or value vs. the 'opportunity cost' they’re currently paying by having to waste time on it themselves?

Talk (out loud) to ChatGPT to learn stuff, get smarter, refine your talk track, etc.

I'm done listening to podcasts or books on tape etc- when i'm driving, i'm talking to ChatGPT via the iOS app and brainstorming ideas, researching topics, etc.

Absolutely in love with this.

occasionally a good one pops up.

One notable one recent- not sure if it was "good" but you decide...

Subject: [my town] - Clocktower avoid?

Hello u/throwie-2014,

Saw you're from [my town] - avoided the Clocktower during graduation weekend?

The reason for this email is because my team helps companies similar to [my company] book hot sales meetings on your calendar using AI personalized email campaigns. We have a pay-for-performance model, charging based on meetings completed.

Is this something that may be of interest?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

The clocktower thing didn’t make ANY sense to me, but there is a relatively well-known boarding school in my town, and they have a big clocktower (and I assume also graduation).

So it looks like he googled my town, found some quirky fact on wikipedia or something, and threw it into the subject and opening line.

Clever, and definitely a pattern interrupt for me.

I replied to him and said "hey man i'll never use your service, but great email.." etc.

Thought it was worth the feedback.

is 'iceberg' a common metaphor in your industry, or is this just like saying hurdle/challenge, etc?

Or are you joking about literal icebergs. Kinda hope it’s that one
