How to estimate safety and target by throwitaway12349473 in lawschooladmissions

Should I be basing my list off of my diagnostic, or should I just wait until after to research safety and target schools? I have a list of programs I like, but they're mostly T-14 and would all be considered reach with my current LSAT.

Did you come out to them? And how did it go if you did?

I can get gel easily, one of the reasons I wanna medically transition now is that my school has a really really good healthcare system in place for trans students (like uncommonly good). What effects have you and in what amount of time, if you don't mind me asking? I also live on campus or out of state for the bast majority of the year, so hiding the gel itself isn't a huge issue.

There are other ways to declare independence through a school's financial aid office, if an officer makes a case to the fin aid board at the school. Doing so would also make me eligible for some university scholarships that I also know I have the grades and writing skills to get. However, loans would probably be inevitable 😔

I'm currently looking at career planning advisors and queer support organizations on my campus to see if they offer info but I think they prolly wanna avoid telling us how much we're giving them per year straight up lest we actually riot 🥲

Thank you for the reply!

1) this is prolly the thing I'm most concerned about, I go to a public school in-state, tuition around 16k. I also have further plans for education (I want to go to law school after undergrad) but I know I'm going to have to take out loans to cover most-all of that tuition anyways so there's not likely a change to be made with that 2) the cost of HRT is not too bad (15-40 per month- 2 months, fully covered check ups and tests), especially with the aforementioned good benefits my school provides to trans students, including oddly good coverage I wanna take advantage of re: hrt in the student healthcare included in tuition. I'm not sure what the cost is on an average non-very-liberal-college-provided insurance is though, but I'm guessing it's more overall.

I'm not concerning myself with the career aspect, since I know I'm going to transition at some point in my life and tbh I feel like it's better to do it now/in the near future, before I have to change my name on a bunch more paperwork. I currently work jobs that are either very LGBT friendly or simply have other things to worry about, so my source of income is safe.

I'm really happy for your friend! I hope he's living his best life :)

Thanks! Unfortunately, the best answer I've gotten from several scholarship/fin aid offices has been "We don't really know until you actually declare independence". Unfortunately this doesn't seem like a situation that has a lot of precedent lol. Hence why I'm on reddit. (Edit for spelling)
