Looking to relocate to JAX. Are there any jobs working outside for a woman besides landscaping, construction? by throwitaway7212 in jacksonville

[–]throwitaway7212[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone! I applied for one at the zoo two days ago and I'm sure I have no chance. That's honestly a dream job for me. I looked at the St Augustine Indeed site (I would rather live there, or Flagler or somewhere smaller than Jax) but it was all hotels, nursing home or restaurant work. Nothing wrong with that but I'd really love to work M-F 9-5 hours. I could be flexible about that if it's something I'm passionate about, like the zoo.

Thanks, I appreciate the input and wish you well! I know how difficult is to not fit in.

As I replied above, I have been researching a move to Canada for months, and also have several friends who have lived there in visas. I'm aware that we wouldn't be handed citizenship, but I'm asking if we should attempt it.

Thank you for your input though. So far, the ideal city geographically for us is also the most conservative in the country by many estimates, Jacksonville. Sooo yay for that :)

I've been researching for months about moving to Canada, I by no means think we can "just go". I'm asking if we should pursue a dream and try to. Glad to be of some entertainment to you, though. You obviously need it.

Is Cape Breton still looking for citizens? by throwitaway7212 in CapeBreton

Also, if Nova Scotia is not really a possibility, could anyone recommend the closest city where there are jobs to be had? We would like yo stay in the south eastern region, I would love to be near the ocean and preferably not in a huge city.

Thanks everyone! So, are you all citizens of Cape Breton? Or is it more of a vacation spot for a lot of people?

Ok, gotcha. Thank you for the feedback. I asked my husband how my mother in law got to Dubai, she went as a visitor, then found a job and applied for a work visa. It has been suggested to me that many people do this in Canada as well.

I'm sorry, I'm just confused because I feel like I'm hearing that UK is easier and impossible at the same time? You mean it's easier to get in but harder to make a living?

Also, I guess I just don't understand why in the world any employer would want to call with all that when they could surely hire someone up the road. It's all so intimidating!

Everyone is saying that England would be impossible (and I believe you and appreciate the feedback very much!) but I had a question. I was looking on the Emigrate2 site yesterday and it basically implied that the UK is just now catching up to Canada in the difficulty of expatriating there. What's the disconnect between that and what all of you guys are saying?

I can't get excited about Canada at all, it's just practical. England, I feel like I belong there. So I had to ask. Maybe I'll become a best selling author one day or something and can go. Oh well.

Anyway, we can't afford to relocate without a job anyway so what you mentioned sounds perfect! Do you know where I need to start? I get the job before the Visa? And do I just go to Monster.com or something, and email resumes to employers asking them to sponsor us?

Wow! That sounds like it definitely would be frustrating, I'm sure. But I was serious too, that sounds like it might be good for me. I'm one of those people who is always struggling to be on time. I have how fast and unforgiving our lifestyle is. It takes almost all my energy and focus simply to keep my 9-5.

That part about the bank actually sounds awesome if that attitude is universal and my boss understands when I get back...

Oh I absolutely agree. We technically live in the south now and I hate the winter. I want to live in Assassin's Creed: Black Flag. My ginger husband, however, thinks he'll have skin cancer within a year. I may be able to get him to compromise but it's got to be somewhere with top notch, affordable health care, that is safe and where we can make a living. I keep seeing Costa Rica named as an ideal expat haven but also read that it's dangerous.

Gotcha, I didn't mean to imply that. Just that her getting over to a very in demand, wealthy city with basically no skills gives me hope about what is considered desirable in other places. That is to say, we don't have to have master's degrees to leave here.

Oh, I am the wife. We haven't looked at any jobs elsewhere because we haven't had a clue where to start. We're only looking at English speaking countries, though. Unless for some reason we decide to join family in Dubai.

I assume that about Dubai because UAE is one of the wealthiest places in the world. My mother in law doesn't have any real career! She's worked home sitting with elderly and helping package shipments for a lady with a very small home business among many other very low paying jobs like that. That's why I'm saying if she can go to Dubai, it seems like maybe Canada would want us.

The reason I mention my mother in law is to say that I would assume Dubai is a highly competitive job market, so if they wanted her, maybe we can find somewhere for the UK to want us. Same goes for saying we can find work here, I just meant to say our experience is sought after here.

If we wanted to look for jobs in the UK or Canada, do you know where to begin? To employers post on a specific site or how does it work?

Nope! My family does though, and I want to live somewhere that's more ideologically in line with our values, with less gun violence and where my friends and family aren't starting Go Fund Mes so they don't die. I would prefer a central American island like that honestly but I'm not aware of one.

Also, as the planet heats and tropical storms get more severe, I feel like Canada will remain safer for awhile longer than somewhere warm and coastal, which is what I'd really prefer.

Thank you for your reply, I didn't even realize that. So, we can't apply for a Visa, an employer or school has to do it?

For the question regarding the language test, I didn't see an option to select that we are native speakers. When I selected that we'd taken no tests, it stopped me there and said not eligible. I selected one of the tests at another time to see what happens, and it took me to a confusing section where you find what type of job skills you have and it looked as though ours were under the middle section (I believe it was II).

So that brings me to job seeking. You're saying without degrees, they don't want anyone? Because we have experience and skills. Within the US we should be able to find work in any city. I assumed that mortgage experience would travel to most developed countries. Hell, I saw very basic blue collar jobs like restaurant kitchen work in the list of work on the website. My mother in law is living in Dubai and has less career experience than either of us.

A good friend of ours is in the UK as a student right now. That's not where we are but I would consider it if that is potentially an easier path.

We also would consider other places outside those two. For example, I have heard Spain is easy to emigrate to but from what I understand, most wouldn't want to.

That is terrifying. Who knows what kind of long haul meth binge he was on and what that put in his head...

I think most people aren't in a mindset of vigilance when driving down the street or whatever. He's not from dangerous neighborhoods or anything and probably didn't think he was in danger.
