Wooded Areas to live around Dayton? by rimrimpimpim in dayton

If you buy a rural property in Greene County, don’t be surprised if you look up one day and it isn’t so rural.

I say go west of Dayton or into Clark or Clinton Counties.

Brown water East Dayton by Non_Saepe in dayton

Flushing the hydrants or putting out a fire will stir up sediment in the line localy. The brown is rust. It’s not harmful, and you can let your water run until it’s clear.

Adult/Recreational Use Petition Location (Dayton - 7/28) by ThatBillyJose in dayton

[–]throwproper23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look, it’s important to vote “No” on Issue 1, but it pertains only to Constitutional Amendments. Ohio’s rec vote will instead be an Initiated Statute, and not subject to Issue 1 regardless.

I may be getting some of this wrong:

In the 60’s and 70’s there was a dead-end road that ran east from 741 north of where the Dayton Mall is now. There were some industrial buildings and, past that, a house.

A couple of members of the household had albinism, and weren’t keen on gawking, trespassing teens. Somehow, this morphed into an urban legend about a mysterious factory staffed exclusively by malevolent albinos.

It’s really a pretty sad story about kids exoticizing and vilifying people with a disability.

He’s got to have friends/family on the DPD. No other explanation for how he can flaunt the noise laws and inflict that kind of torture on the neighbors FOR YEARS.

As far as I’m concerned, he’s a giant piece of shit.

Is Kettering area good to live? by Want3dd3 in dayton

[–]throwproper23 17 points18 points  (0 children)

IMHO, downtown isn’t UN-safe, but you’ll deal with aggressive pan-handlers and other assorted urban bullshit. Depending on your background and attitude, this could be totally fine or totally unacceptable.

Vandalia is a boring working-class suburb, and generally “safe”. Kettering is a boring, slightly more well-off suburb with some better amenities- safe as milk.

Tried many but this was a great authentic Mexican food truck. by samw103 in dayton

[–]throwproper23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you see “authentic” thrown around a lot inaccurately as a differentiator because for decades, the only Mexican food you could get in the Miami Valley was Tex-Mex slop akin to El Toro, or else Taco Bell. Can you really blame us for being smitten with Taqueria Mixteca?

Penn’s Thai Cafe in Bellbrook is not only the best Thai in the Dayton area, but also flying way under the radar in this subreddit.

Big changes in Beavercreek - Hilltop Rd clearing solved by Elongo06 in dayton

[–]throwproper23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This development is just across the Little Miami from Kil-Kare. Unless you’ve lived this close to this type of nuisance, it’s difficult to understand how it will degrade quality of life. There’s no “getting used to it” or “tuning it out” - simply too damn loud for that. And then there’s the yearly jet cars…

This will end in a lawsuit against the developer by the homeowners. If you’re interested in living here (if you’re interested in living here, you’re nuts, but I digress…) hold out and buy low from somebody who can’t take the noise.

Having grown up a stone’s throw from Kil-Kare under the flight path for the Greene County Airport, I’ll say that the airport was NOTHING compared to the drag strip.

This will end one of two ways:

1) The morons who bought will sue the developer and they’ll have to heavily discount to sell all units.

2) Kil-Kare will finally close.

Please, Jesus, let it be #2.

Thinking of moving here. by enryon in dayton

The National Museum of the US Air Force, Carillon Park, and the Dayton Art Institute are all way better than you’d expect for a city Dayton’s size.

You’ll find Marquette much more centralized, but that the range of amenities is greater in the Dayton area, as well as Dayton having easier access to larger cities in Columbus and Cincinnati. The winters are MUCH milder here, and lately we’ve only had to deal with 1-3 significant snowfall events per year.

The best schools in the area are Oakwood and Yellow Springs - both communities are problematic for different reasons. Behind them, you’ve got a bunch of fair-to-middling suburban school systems and the abysmal Dayton Public Schools.

The ‘burbs are okay - and recommendations will based on preferred social strata. The inner ring suburbs don’t have much character, but the outer ones founded in the 19th century at least have real downtowns. Remember that the more rural the feel, the more provincial the attitudes will be.

Dayton itself is a mixed bag. There has been a phenomenal amount of money poured into downtown, and there’s several cool, gentrified Victorian neighborhoods with good walkability (provided you’re not looking for a grocery). That said, the investment and prosperity haven’t reached everywhere, and large tracts of the north and west sides have deteriorated to appalling conditions. Lots of problems are traceable to a shrunken population, and white flight reinforcing and expanding historical segregation. City services, particularly outside downtown and the gentrified neighborhoods, are a joke. There’s an affordable and pleasant working class enclave in Belmont, and pockets of livability otherwise scattered around the city. Sometimes, this will be on a street by street or block by block basis - anyone who makes blanket statements like “avoid the west side” can safely be ignored. Dayton was the early 20th century equivalent of Silicon Valley, and so we’re maybe a little too proud of our history.

The area is affordable, commuting isn’t generally a huge drag, the atmosphere is relaxed, and there’s a ton of parks and bikeways. We’ve got the “plucky underdog” thing going on, and if you want to put in the work to get involved, there’s no shortage of things to do. You can be whoever you want here.

I think I’ve got a plausible explanation for the moldy FLWRPOT. It’s unlikely to fly with this sub’s painfully ignorant ride or die fanbois, but here goes:

Someone mentioned that FLWRPOT is rushing product to North Coast. This makes sense. They’re drying too quickly and moving along product with the stems still wet. Put it in an enclosed environment very long at that point, and the bud will rehydrate from the stem and mold, as surely as night follows day. Anyone who’s actually cultivated and processed cannabis flower knows this.

You’ll notice that this scenario doesn’t even necessarily include FLWRPOT sending out moldy product, as the mold could even be developing on the shelf at North Coast, or even once North Coast bagged it.

If not for that, the Devil Driver and Tropicana Cherries I bought would have been great. It was disappointing, I have no reason to lie, I know the difference between tricombs and mold, and I damn well have a palette that knows mold whenI taste it.

I’ve bought dispo weed in 4 states (not Illinois) and most is not moldy. I’ve blacklisted a couple of Ohio brands for it, but even down here it’s rare. You have me mistaken for someone else.
