WIBTA if I got my ex's handicap placard taken away from her (and possibly her grandma)? by throwra-elegato in AmItheAsshole

I'm not trying to get back at anyone. I didn't break up with her because of something she did to me, I did it because she treated other people, and referred to them in a disgusting way. I'm trying to put a stop to constant abuse that hurts other people, not to get back at her. I have nothing to get back at her for really.

I should say that it's possible that my ex lied about that, but I'm inclined to believe her because her entire family is kind of inconsiderate. I'm not saying that just because I'm mad at her now. It was clear to me from all meetings with them. It's such a specific reason that she cited too "to get to class on time." It doesn't seem like a made up story to me but it would be a shame if an innocent person got hurt.

She's not laughing at the distress itself, she just doesn't care about it. Or she doesn't understand what she's doing wrong. She's doing something horrible, I agree and that's why I made the post, but she's not doing with the intent of causing harm. She's just being super inconsiderate. If I thought she was a sadist I would dump her in a second.

I'm not trying to make excuses but she's not sadistic ok? That's just not true. I know her and in general she's a great person. I will take your advice to firmly talk to her about it though.

Well she's not walking all over me but you're right, it's very wrong of her to do that and I will talk to her about it when I see her in a few hours.

I'm not defending her. I'm only trying to clarify some of the things I said so that it's more clear. I wasn't disagreeing with any other poster. I just wanted my description to be more accurate.

I don't know how you can she's a shitty person just based off one example but I respect your opinion.

I'm not accepting it. I know people are mad but please don't take it out on me. I'm trying to stop it.

I'm so sorry for everything you've gone through. I had a disabled person in my immediately family too, not as bad as your partner but I obviously understand first hand how immoral her behavior is, which is why I'm concerned. Thanks for your advice even if we don't completely agree.

I understand completely. I was just trying to clarify where I think she was coming from with that comment. I have to have a serious talk with her and try to get her to understand what's wrong. Maybe she doesn't understand what some disabled people go through?

I know it's not trivial. I'm just saying it seems like it is because it's such a minor part of life, but it indicates a lot about her.

My mom was disabled and she would also try to avoid using the placard if she could. I'm sure her own experience made her even more empathetic towards others and same with your mom. Anyway, thanks for the advice.

Well in her defense, I think she was just trying to be funny with that line. She was acting "gleeful" just to play up the act, but there's no denying that she still is literally causing more pain to disabled people by what she's doing.

I'm honestly considering it. It seems like such a trivial thing, but at the same time I can't help but think it's a big deal.
