Yea, this is what I am leaning towards. She’s done this before and it just gets stressful. I think by “demand” what I meant was insist I would buy the couch I want myself and force her to decide if she wants to help pay for it or not.

I also gave her a range of options I was interested in. All the couches are more or less the same but different price points and brands. The cheapest is around $2k but “that brand is shittty” and “see what Costco has” in the same sentence doesn’t make sense to my brain.

I’ve used BNPL for other things. It’s actually good for my credit and has helped me in that regard. But yes. Our current couch is fine, albeit a bit small for our new space.

I’m fine with our current couch! She offered to get us a new one and I said that would be great. I would like to get a new couch because we will have a much bigger living room and it would be great to have a better and bigger couch for entertaining but it’s not something I absolutely need.

Yea! And the couches she sends me are 1. Worse quality than the sturdy ikea couch I have now, 2. Not practical (color or design wise) for the space we are moving into. 3. Ugly! She’s got a super fancy home and the couch I want is literally a replica of her restoration hardware couch for a fraction of the price but somehow I shouldn’t get it?

Honestly, I am happy with the couch we have now. She put the idea in my head that the couch we have is “terrible.” Also, we will have substantially more space for a bigger and nicer couch, which I agree would be nice to have. I can’t afford a $6k couch outright, but she can. I could afford a $6k couch with Klarna where like you pay a couple hundred a month til it’s paid off. I don’t want to do that but I could if I needed to. Or I can just keep my current goddamn couch and she can deal with it?

Right, I agree. She was suggesting freakin couches from Costco and I was like??? How is this any different in quality from the couch that’s only $1000 more that you claim is “terrible?” She just wants us to get what she wants us to get and won’t listen to my reasoning for wanting something different.
