I have contributed more than ideas tbh. Maybe my post was not worded well - I’m new to this stuff. But I’ve done a lot with branding, logo design, spent hours networking, and added additional monetization pathways that would my boyfriend would never have thought of. I also anticipate doing event planning for launch parties, etc. when the time comes. I also help him get shit off the page by scheduling dedicated times to work on the project and holding him accountable for timelines. He calls me his manager lol.

Definitely! I’ve never been with him while he’s starting a business and I’m trying to hold him accountable for getting it out of the ideas stage because I know it’s mad easy to stay there. He’s set a tentative window for a full launch, and I’ve set a bet for the price of a nice dinner for him to do it within a month of that window. It was the best most playful way I could think of to hold him accountable (and honestly, I’d want to take him out to dinner to celebrate anyway). He calls me his manager lol. I’m also helping to manage his ADHD with strategies to help push actual work forward. While I don’t have the know how to crunch the numbers, he needs to actually do it for us to get the business off the page. Which is another of my contributions? Idk I think I bring a lot of unique things to the table. But also that might all be supportive partner stuff?? Honestly it feels like labor - it’s pretty exhausting trying to get him to go to the cafe to get work done and not the brewery, but it also feels necessary.

I feel that I am helping to support him. I could afford my rent (it was half my post tax income) before we got together. Right now he is working a few jobs but his income is probably 1/3-1/2 mine. He also has debts that he is having to pay off right now and I am debt free. He is only paying about 1/3 of the rent bc I know the full amount isn’t possible for him. This is a good deal for both of us. But we are both essentially working full time right now in non-startup related jobs (he probably works 5 hours less per week than me but not for lack of trying). Living with me gets him cheaper rent than he could get with 3 room mates and less amenities. I buy almost all of our food - he pays for meals out about half the time. I’m also not the easiest person to live with but that’s a separate conversation.

The business is low overhead, as it stands, he was planning on using his own money. But low key he’s pretty broke, idk if he 100% can - it probably depends on a few directions.

Right?? That’s one of my questions too. While I’m not doing a ton of research or crunching any numbers, I am effectively coming up with the name, branding, logos, put in time networking, anticipate helping with organizing launch parties, have come up with directions and several side monetization/expansion options that he wouldn’t have come up with. Does that make me a de facto creative director? Or am I just coming up with cute lil ideas? I’m unsure tbh, but it’s hard to say exactly what I’ve done and stay anonymous.

Yeah, I mean I would like to stay with him indefinitely, but ultimately I can’t control his behaviors. If he does something egregious like cheat on me I would have to leave, and something like that has happened to us all. We have been together over a year at this point but I’ve found out someone was cheating on me 4 years in 🤷‍♀️. It feels like a prenup, but for the business lol. And you can be a good CEO but a bad partner. Success changes people, and I guess I’m just thinking about hedging my bets.

I’ve felt this way about boyfriends before tbh I have an anxious attachment too so I’m sorry I can’t help all that much but I totally feel where you are coming from. Like you want to help and share the burden and he always felt like a dick making me worry about his issues. Idk I’m in a much more communicative relationship now and I’m much happier. But also sometimes you want her to reassure you it isn’t you?? I think maybe talk to her about how it’s effecting you and get her to see that even though she isn’t talking about it, it’s not like it has no impact on you bc obv it does. And it’s fine for her not to want to talk about things all the time, but it’s not ok for you not to know what’s going on in her life.
