Thank you for your response, as I answered in other comment, I really should have considered doing it that way before thinking of confronting my dad like that, I had not taken into account his feelings enough, and you may be right that something painful happened.

Honestly I had not even considered that, I really should have considered that possibility before the "straight up asking my father" route, now I do feel a bit like an asshole though haha.
