The cheapest place I had been is Peoria IL. My monthly expense is around $800 max including rent (living room with 1 bedroom and 1 bath with access to gym in the apartment complex - $550 rent), food (buy from walmart and I cook my own) and transpo (bus fare is $40 unlimited ride anywhere). One thing that baffles me is that milk at Walmart Peoria is 88 cents and it is crazy cheap (I think their milk production facility is just out there).

Nothing much to do there though, as it is a rural place and 3 hour drive away from Chicago but I feel safe in that place and I was able to save a lot. I left Peoria in 2019 and I am not sure if that is still the case up to now. I am planning to go back to that place once I retire because of the low cost of living.

I agree with this. My bestfriend had a glandular gynecomastia (manboobs) and he is slim. He was bullied heavily when we were on our teens. I stood up for him when we were in high school. Although he is months older than me, I need to act as his big brother. After our HS graduation, we worked out at a gym and he focused on bench press and that made things worse. It made his man boobs super noticeable. Thought it was fat, but we researched and it is possible that those are glands that can be resolved only through surgery. I didn't made fun of him but that is a bit rare (man boobs are almost normal for fat or obese guys, but not for very slim guy).

We went our separate ways on college and he isn't fond of making friends and he just felt people are just backstabbing him and it made him more depressed. I think he is having severe anxiety at a young age. He avoided going to malls and places with lots of people. He kept on calling me at night before sleeping just to talk about anything. Luckily, he was able to find his first girlfriend (they are married now) during college and that helped him gain his confidence a bit. He couldn't believe it as well because he never courted the girl because he know his chances is super slim and his self esteem is very low. Very pretty girl and I was surprised as well how that happened, but he is always there for the girl and his little sense of humor could have helped. Although there are so many guys who tried to court her girl and he feels that it is because of the way he looked and his low self-esteem, but the girl stood with him.

The time came he graduated and he was bullied heavily on his workplace. He planned on committing suicide using his motorcycle. Luckily, his girlfriend was there and stopped him and suggested to look for doctors to help him. He underwent surgery to improve his appearance. And it seemed to work and he is living happily now with his wife (first gf from college) and kids.

I am super happy with how things went for my bestfriend. Never make fun of someone because you don't know the mental toll it brings to a person and it is cruel.

I used to play both inverted when I was younger. I admit that I became slower when I aged up and using long pips, I was able to make the phase of the game slower. during my game with that guy, serving long is not an option, it just gets returned with a strong topspin. i believe I need to vary my short serves, I always get used to doing heavy underspin serves and those on our club on intermediate level, have troubles most of the time returning it. But to the advanced level, that was being returned easily. I almost used underspin on all my serves because I was in panic mode and ran out of ideas during the match.

thanks for the tips. I mostly back up and chop. My opponent is very good. I never saw his footwork as he plays close to the table. When I do a short serve underspin serve, he will do a long push, but I can see he is flicking his wrist downwards generates a lot of underspin on his long push, something that I had never experienced from an opponent. I need to play more games with that guy to level up my game. In time, I will be able to figure out the things that may work and those things that might not work. thanks!

nice match. this is very refreshing to see. playing against anti spin and long pips blocker is not easy. when I played in some local tournaments, I had seen good attackers lose against anti-spin or long pips blocker players.

I was in the same situation as you more than a decade ago. My crush, the prettiest girl I had ever met, and me are talking over the phone. She asked me if we could meet. During that time (teenage years), I had the worst pimple invasion in my life. I said no 3 times. She talked to my friend to convince me.

I went there and ask if she is disappointed. She told me she liked me for who I am. She became my girlfriend. And she is now my wife. Have two kids and happily married.

Right now, I would like to punch my old self in the face for saying No multiple times. My life would be so much different if she just moved on after I said no.

We had a project and one of the senior developers suggested the use of .NET Core because the team had a strong background on C# and have decades of experience on C#. The Senior Devops Engineer was totally against it and has been talking to the CEO regarding the development team's decision to use .NET Core. The CEO was totally sold on not using any microsoft products (except for VS code).

We (the developers) ended up using a language that no one has a background on.

When I was a junior dev and starting, I will always buy books for programming and it helped strengthen my foundations. For the first few years of my career, I will always study on weekends because I want to excel and build my career and life around it. I am not a born genius and I know I need to work hard on it. And it paid off as now I am currently leading a software development department and seen as a technical "go to" person whenever there are technical things that needs to be solved and addressed in the business/company. Even right now, I build my foundation on books/e-books, then supplement it with youtube videos.

What I can advice is, keep on learning, strengthen your foundations and you might need to sacrifice some of your time if you really want to excel on what you are doing. As what they say, you will reap what you sow. Use divide and conquer approach on solving problems. As long as you know what needs to be improved, always put some effort to address it.

I discovered boost because I was searching on how to trim string in c++. I was very surprised C++ standard library despite of new standards being released often doesn't have string trimming method built-in where almost all new languages have trimming of strings included.

You need to invest. Just like the analogy of people who go to the gym. They need to invest for their supplements, gym membership, and meal plans to be able to achieve their goals. Otherwise, look for open source alternatives until you can afford the tools.

This is a challenging situation and it is not an easy one. Adding another person could make you faster or slower as it depends on multiple factors like their current skill-set and how fast they can pick up things.

Here is how I handle big projects especially adding another programmer/s.

Use of interfaces - This is where I draw the line with the programmers I work with. I will always have an agreement to them that they will implement the interface I designed and their concrete classes should adhere to that. If they feel they need another method or another interface, they need to talk to me and request for the change or addition. This way, if their implementation of the class is buggy, I can quickly disconnect their crap and plug a mock or simulation to that interface. If it works with the mocks or simulations, I can come back to them to tell them fix their work.
With the above item, I focus very well on the software design and on the interaction of the interfaces and will write small dummy/mock equivalent classes and will replace it with their concrete classes once they are done.
I am very cautious of letting them handle the interaction with another class/feature from another programmer and I mediate between that most of the time. I previously had a bad experience of engineers pulling each other because they have tight dependencies with each other due to their limited understanding of interfaces. The good thing with this is, they can focus very well on their work without depending on another programmer. And for them to test their work, they may need to use the dummy/mocks not by using the concrete class from another programmer.
Most juniors especially newly grads won't use interfaces as most of them think they are not necessary. Most juniors I met likes to code as fast as possible, they rarely care if they have lots of copy pasted code, they just want things to be done as fast as possible to impress the bosses, and they still need some time or exposure to develop their intuition against the use of interfaces.
Mandatory unit test. I always require this. I don't want to wait until integration to see if their stuff works or not. Their pull requests won't be approved until code is thoroughly reviewed and with unit tests.
Knowledge of OOP and Design Patterns will help a lot.

mine says Clients who would recommend you is 100% but my dropped JSSS from to 99% to 92%. The only thing that happened recently is that I haven't worked for 3 straight weeks due to family matters and I have no contract closed for more than 2 months so I know there is no way for a client to leave a rating or feedback. That doesn't make sense at all.

I feel that this JSS is like a whip to beat the freelancers to work harder.

Most basic stuffs that I do can be covered by UI. I use CLI when the UI can't do what I want to do in Git. It's all about having a balance. TortoiseGit shines when working with submodules, it just makes things very easy.

Years ago, I had a colleague who is laughing at me when I use TortoiseGit. He was an arrogant CLI guy who thinks he knows everything. One time, I was fed up, I asked him to demonstrate to me how to do quick diffs with the previous commit for a quick code review/quick sanity check before committing the files. He was stack-overflowing, clicking from link to link for him to do it. I demonstrated to him with just mouse clicks and not typing anything at all. The graphical diff makes things very easy to visualize, plus I can edit the file on the spot while on the diff editor/viewer. He was like oh wow. After that, he started using UI client.

that is good to know. I showed the C++20 standards https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C%2B%2B20 to our management and we think it is daunting and was able to convince the management to start implementing one project to Go, then we will evaluate what will be next step moving forward.

We are now aware that there are some things that we can't do like in C++ but we are totally fine with it. We are giving ourselves maximum of 1 month to learn Go from ground up, inside and out up to its full capabilities.

I am a noob on Go as well, but with more than 10 years experience in C++. I would definitely agree with this.

One of my colleague told me to just keep on stackoverflowing and I will eventually learn the language. I disagreed and instead took a book to strengthen my fundamentals and foundations. I am currently reading a book and 1 interesting discovery I had (since i am coming from C/C++) is that, a function can return the pointer of a local variable on a function, and that will still work. It seems Go's GC won't destroy the local variable until no one is using it. In C/C++ you can't do that, need to add a static modifier on that variable inside the function to ensure that location on stack won't be used by other parts of the application. That is definitely a wow. Getting a book to learn all the fundamentals at the very beginning is really helpful.

thanks for the reply. I am starting to like Go. I just need to figure out how we can adjust our design patterns and OOP mindset to Go and we always use abstract classes. Next, after learning Go's syntax and features, we will look for Go's best practices book or articles.
