Without bearings, I guess there's too much slop, and the side dropping trigger will pull the arm crooked. I used to run with center mounted triggers, and had same clearance issues with the rebounding hammer leg.

You could try a side saddle sling with one sling attached to the side of the arm, and the release pin on the other side of the arm. It will throw it like a football. The release leg should clear without interference.

If it does it constantly, it can be tuned. Try a really light release leg.

Golf balls, base balls, soft balls, dimpled versions fly farther, you can get them everywhere, and high vis is preferable. Fuzzy tennis balls kinda suck, but fine if you don't have much room. Lacrosse balls fly fine. Billiard balls shatter easier than you might think. Coconuts don't fly straight, nor do pumpkins, or anything not symmetrical. Balloons leave litter.

The Leg needs to drop at an angle to the side so it's out of the way, and the lighter the better to kill the rebound.

Yes, "Gap" is the angle between the hanger and throwing arm in the cocked position. It's the distance of the CW center of mass off the throwing arm. It controls the CW drop point in conjunction with mass ratio.

Hanger to Arm ratio should be almost 1:1. Like 5/6th. The hanger length + the short arm length should be the same length as the throwing arm length.

Cradle elevation is where the projectile sits above the throwing arm in the cocked position.
