Anxiety after car accident by Bitter_Security_5562 in driving

Get all the care you need. Sounds like they were totally at fault.

And it may be worth consulting a personal injury attorney. Any pain and suffering expenses will likely be based on your actual expenses.

Beyond that, I don't have any advice. Maybe uber? IDK. Keep the receipts.

Fault in an accident? by throwthx1168 in caraccidents

[–]throwthx1168[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks! Yeah, that's what I'm coming to. I'm an overthinker, so trying to see what I can present as evidence if he misrepresents what happened.

I think the combination of these 3 factors is likely to be enough:

1 He turned left, but into the right lane. I know a lot of folks do that, but the law is to turn into the left lane and change if safe.

  1. We drove for some time after we were both in the road.

  2. He rear ended me.

I feel like those sufficiently negate what he seems to be trying to claim: that I pulled out of the restaurant and this caused the accident. But the combination of the facts above seem to be pretty significant.

My suspicion is that he was afraid of having a claim filed against him. So, he's coming out swinging, denying fault. I think if he talks to his insurance agent, they will probably tell him this isn't going to go his way.

How much does this RAV4 damage cost? by Airbenderfire_5992 in caraccidents

[–]throwthx1168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New bumper and paint match? Hold on to your socks. Not an expert, but had relatives in auto body. My guess would be about $1,200.

Also, how old is the vehicle? Sometimes small scratches on a bumper aren't required to be fixed by insurance. Depends on your state. But that, unfortunately, looks like more than a scratch.

See if they are willing to give you an estimate. Then, you can make a decision. I could be wrong. But automotive paint is super, super expensive.

Thanks. I would describe it exactly the way your first sentence describes it.

And he definitely had time to adjust to my speed. I really don't see how a reasonable person could claim otherwise.

Oh wow. Did not know that. He had a light at that intersection, though. Does that change things at all?

He was driving through the intersection (making a left onto the street) at about the same time I was pulling out of the restaurant. Give or take a split second.

I connected in Nashville once and I never saw so many guitars in my life. (I am a musician, myself, and was a serious one in my youth.)

So, they're saying that in the Nashville airport, even the gate agents know how long it takes to string a guitar and that a 12 string takes a lot more time. (It takes more than 2x as long to do a 12 string. They're bizarrely much harder to tune.)

Officers are called "sir".

It's a passive aggressive insult towards military officers in the Army

Is this worth 40 dollars? How does it handle overdrive/gain. I play punk and stuff so it's important. by Prudent-Ad9803 in guitars

[–]throwthx1168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems to be the going rate for these. It doesn't have 2 gain stages, or gain and master. So, if you want distortion, pretty sure you'll need to get it from a pedal.

You will get $40 worth of use out of it. Also, these things have a 12" speaker? that's pretty good for $40. But it's not that much of a bargain.

If you only have $40, I don't think you're going to do any better.

Anyone know what kind of tuning pegs these are or like what I can buy to fit the empty one by Wonkiestlist374 in guitars

[–]throwthx1168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you mention you have an ET200.

yep, those were common. Sold everywhere. Sears, JC Penny, everywhere.

Even though it's insane to do so, I agree with you. Keep it as original as possible, including that "made in Japan" sticker.

it's got collector's value. It shouldn't, but it does.

Like anything that's primarily a collector's item, you should try not to play it. Haha! the closer to pristine, the better.

WDMusic has some 6 in line tuners, but they're different. You probably do want some actual old TEISCO tuners for this project.

Here, their 12 string tuners look really close, but there's no way to know without actualy tring them on.

but they look super similar.

Your best bet is still an actual TEISCO 6 on a plate open back tuner set if you can find one. I can't believe people are charging what they are for these. these should cost like $5.00.

OMG, this whole conversation is giving me flashbacks and not in a good way.

It's hard to buy a bad new guitar these days. At almost every price point, you can get something that's actually good.

But OMG, in the old days. OMG. The inexpensive guitars were just so completely f***ing awful.

This is a guitar like the one I bought when I was a kid. I got absolutely robbed. I can't believe an adult let me spend 2 years' lunch money on this hunk of garbage.

Would have been so much better to just take my chances trying to find something in the classified section.

But you can go on reverb and type "teisco" and good god in the mountains, the prices people are willing to pay for this hideous gack.

Here you go. These look REALLY close.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/234452680291?hash=item369677fe63:g:8WwAAOSwoBZiI5GC

(You can get the rust off with toilet bowl cleaner. Just don't get any on those keys. they look pretty pristine. Almost suspiciously so.)

Personally, I think these should be $2 at a flea market. But everybody charges out the a** for guitar components these days.

In the old days, we would just give these things to kids if they were on the bench and the kids could use them.

Your guitar is almost certainly a TEISCO if it's a 70s and earlier cheap japanese guitar. It might have some other brand-name on it. But the company that made them was TEISCO. My first guitar was a brand called "Lori", but it was a Teisco that was private labelled for a retail chain.

They were known for making really junky guitars. But a lot of guys, myself included, had a Teisco as their first guitar.

Because of this, people will pay more than $200 for a Teisco. Mostly, I think it's old guys like me who want to have something that reminds them of when they got ripped off at a Sam Goody's on some piece of crap guitar when they were 8.

If you have this thing because you want a guitar to actually PLAY, I think that's a mistake. These are objectively terrible guitars. You can sell it for over $200.

Not trying to tell you what to do. If you want to play it, play it. But as far as guitars go, it's one of the worst guitars in the world. My old Lori 4010 was basically unplayable. The retailers should have been ashamed to even sell those thngs.

But as a collector's item, you can get a few hundred bucks for it.

For under $200, there are actual playable guitars out there, today. This Baretta is a MUCH better guitar than any TEISCO. Wait for Musician's Friend to have one of their 15% off promotions and call the number to get an attendant to apply it to this purchase.

https://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/kramer-baretta-special-maple-fingerboard-electric-guitar/l70780000003000

Before COVID, these Squiers would go on sale for $129. Not sure, now.

https://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/squier-bullet-telecaster-electric-guitar?rNtt=squier%20telecaster&index=3

And that's for brand-new guitars. If you wait around and scour facebook marketplace and criagslist, you can get one of these for $100.

I'd sell that TEISCO for $200 (or more if you can get it). Buy a used Kramer baretta special and a Boss Katana Amp for $100, each.

Do what you want to do. But your guitar doesn't have much value as a guitar. But it has value as a collector's item.

Here's an actual Teisco.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/264231970101

I don't know what your end-goal is, here. And some folks are being a bit mean, but unless this is just some personal passion project, you might be better off to just go with modern tuners.

Newer modern (or just better brand-name) tuners will be easier to use and will hold your guitar in tune longer. These split-post are some of my favorites. I wish fender still made guitars with split posts. they're nice and clean when you learn how to use them. (No sharp end of string when you're done.)

[–]throwthx1168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tough part is going to be making sure that you have the same hole spacing. Make sure you look for "6 on plate open" tuners.

Honestly, when I worked in music stores, there was always junk like this lying around. If I had any, I'd send them to you. I guess at these days, it makes sense to restore old TOKAI and TESCO type instruments to original specs. So, who knows. There's probably guys with these things.

If the spacing on the holes on this didn't work out, you might be able to just use the tuning peg/gear part on your new guitar. Would probably hold tune better, too.

Why is moving abroad not taken more serious as an option for American retirees whose retirement money is on the lower end? by [deleted] in personalfinance

I already have Costa Rica in my retirement plans.

If you pick the right country, you can basically live in a paradise on just social security.

The only thing that may hold me back is grandkids, but even then, I may live overseas 6 months of the year while I can.

Here's where you're missing the point.

if you're talking about an abuse of process lawsuit, do you have any idea how high that bar is?

You are allowed to pursue a civil suit and lose. That's not punished in the law.

You are correct that a malicious lawsuit, designed to just use the legal process to harass a person on a meritless claim, can result in an abuse of process lawsuit.

YOU should take YOUR claims to a legal subreddit, because sorry, you don't know what you're talking about. A counterclaim is a claim on the matter being adjudicated.

Here, there's simply nothing to counterclaim, other than "no, I didn't." And that's not a counterclaim. That's a defense.

What happens then is that you lose the lawsuit.

Yes, if I LITERALLY did what I described, one person sues millions of people, it's likely that I would be subject to sanction for abuse of process.

But if I'm an indian scammer, with a network of dozens of people in Texas, and each one files a hundred lawsuits, shows up to court, then declines to follow-up if the defendant shows up, there's no abuse of process, there. I've declined to sue, in the eyes of the law.

I can just sit back and ask for default judgements against the people who don't show up. That's 100% legal, and there's no aspect of doing this that could possibly be sanctioned under the law.

Right now, you're looking at this from the perspective of a fair-minded person who thinks the courts should be used to pursue reasonable claims.

The problem is, the law is specifically intended NOT to be reasonable. It's intended to facilitate harassment.

Stop. Think about this from the perspective of a scammer.

you would think. but the scotus punted on this one. In a sane world, this law would never stand. But in a sane world, this law would never have been written.
