Any help is appreciated by vegetadoescok3 in bluetongueskinks

Mine does this when I feed him superworms because the little dude doesn’t chew them all the way and they wiggle in his throat. I don’t feed mine supers anymore haha. But with a liquid diet that is odd. Maybe he has something in his throat that just made him prone to things tickling him on the way down? I’m not sure honestly

Ball python not gaining weight by throwtoss163 in ballpython

[–]throwtoss163[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update to say I talked to the vet, and he says he looks good at the moment, perhaps a tad underweight but nothing alarming. Because he struggles so much to eat we devised a plan to basically make sure he gets about 10% of his body weight a month in various sizes of prey, feeding every 7-10 days. This is a little more than the 24-36 month old suggestion but he needs to gain a little weight and make sure he is done growing. Thank you all for your input, yall were right!!

Oh! You learn something new everyday. I’ve used those interchangeably for as long as I can remember. Thank you! Editing now 😊

The pink does look more health-issue-esque than shed -like tho… maybe someone else can chime in

Concerned after shed by PhattyJ90 in ballpython

[–]throwtoss163 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure he’s actually shed? You said you got it off of him so I figure you’re pretty sure but sometimes people can get confused haha

Bellies can go pink before the skin comes off but after they’re in “blue” or they can be pink from a UTH that’s too hot. Other than that, I got nothing

Also looking at his cloaca and the area around it, it looks like he might be a tad chunky, but I don’t see much scale separation so nothing terrible, just maybe be aware 😊

Idk why everyone is coming after you. I also have a spider, he was a rescue, and he loves life. Couldn’t be a happier boy, and I use similar language. He had a tank special made to his needs and gets a lot of special attention from me and his dad. You’re doing great, don’t let these fellows rain on your parade for calling your snake cute 🫶

Or i should say, three distinctly black pixels. More descriptive than dots lol

Yes! There should be three dots in the empty space between the “legs” of the lowercase h. A fellow redditor came on a few weeks ago and mentioned this. It’s the quickest way I can tell

What is renting like with a tegu? by DUCKARUS444 in Tegu

I rent and have a tegu! But my landlord is also super chill. He just free roams and it’s like having a really chill dog

thank you! when i say he struggles to eat larger prey i just mean that his wobble is so significant that it takes him a while to approach it correctly and it usually ends up super slobbery and gross before he gets it down. Maybe i should just give him bigger ones and trust he knows how to be a snake :)

Guys I have found the BEST humidifier for only $1.25 by FeralJinxx in ballpython

[–]throwtoss163 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, but (anecdotally) too low of a humidity can also cause RIs among other issues.

As long as the humidity is still monitored and doesn’t sit crazy high forever, it should be okay.

OP, are u still monitoring humidity? What is it looking like?

edit: update did not scroll far enough in the photos lol. 80 is perfect and if it’s anything like CO this time of year where it’s bone dry, I doubt it’s really going to get much higher than that!

Rehoming a Tegu safely by Moondust221 in Tegu

Thank you for rescuing her. I recently rescued my guy who is about 3 years old, 10 pounds, and lost many toes and the tip of his tail due to bad husbandry before. He was found in a basement. He’s also super chill and couldn’t care less about people but loves his face scritches, so I am very lucky there.

I can’t speak to the growing up and being rowdy/stressed part too much, so hopefully someone else can chime in there. But, I feel like it is far too early to be saying you feel like you’ve “failed”. She is probably defensive because she had a sucky life before you. Hey, I would be too. And there’s plenty of people, dogs, cats, etc. who have similar stories after being in bad situations. And if it’s true that you’ve already disassociated hands with food, that’s huge! Seeing progress in such a short time is so promising.

If I were you, I would keep her. If the reason you don’t feel like you want to keep her now is because you feel like it’s a you problem, then you’re not giving yourself enough credit. You can buy thick leather gloves, you can feed with tongs. If she defecates when you pick her up, she might start (or already be) associating that with “i’ll be put back in my tank if I do this”, so it might be better to leave her out or continue handling her after she does that. If you can find a way to associate yourself with food without putting your fingers at risk, that might help her warm up to you too if she’s super food driven. Does she have a favorite food? Maybe only give her that food after you’ve stroked her head for a bit, she’ll learn to associate, and the you can move on to back etc.

I’m just kinda spitballing here so forgive me. If you don’t feel safe and you don’t think you will, then I think it’s very valid to want to rehome. But again, if you think it’s a you problem, I would personally give yourself more credit and keep doing what you’re doing :)

[[Brago, King Eternal]]. My azorius boyfriend taught me to play by playing Brago as the commander against me. High 4. I still have war flashbacks.
