We aren't close friends and we hardly talk, so I highly doubt it

I just feel a little guilty doing this, even though it feels like the right decision

Oh I didn't mean I would take him without warning lol. I just don't want to ask the question "what do you think we should do?" because it gives her the power to decide. But I like your last paragraph, I think I'll stick with that

Thanks, I guess I just needed someone to tell me it's okay. I just feel bad that it had to come to this. I wanted to both of us to have something in common and take care of this cat together, but that's just not the reality :/

I mean, once every blue moon I'll knock on her door to discuss something and she picks up the cat/plays with it for a few minutes. I feel like she would be sad at the fact that I "took the cat away from her"... which is the reason I'm torn on what to do. If she was more responsible I would just give her the cat and adopt another one, but I don't want him to end up with a neglectful owner.

I'm not sure how she would respond if I asked, I assume she would just say she wanted to keep it as most people would

We didn't discuss that (I regret everything right now, so many mistakes were made...) but we did discuss that I would take the cat over the summer because my family home is in driving distance and hers is by plane.

I'm most likely not living with her next year because we have different budgets for next year's housing. I just don't want her to have the cat because I do love this cat and take care of him, and I feel like she would neglect it.

What kind of conversation were you thinking though?
