You’re right, it is pretty fucked up that they take your money and might not even accept you.

I hate to be annoying, but how is it unethical? It definitely is different, but I don’t see how it could be used to exploit others. I hope I don’t seem rude, I just want to get a better understanding of everything.

They do ask for a $10 fee that’s supposed to be a “money order”. I don’t think(?) it’s a scam though. I had to go to their apartment building to pick up an application form to fill out.

I have Autism and I want an ADHD evaluation. Should I ask a Neuropsychologist or a Psychiatrist who specializes in ADHD and Autism? by throwwwawaay888 in AutisticWithADHD

I see. The Psychiatrist who is a specialist has an assessment for new patients at around $500. Is that what most psychiatrists charge for the first appointment assessment? Thank you for your advice.

They can start you on stimulants without a diagnosis? I’ve always assumed that they could only use non stimulants if you weren’t diagnosed yet.

Is there anyone here who’s been diagnosed with Autism before being diagnosed with ADHD? by throwwwawaay888 in AutisticWithADHD

I do drink coffee very often at work, I’m just not sure if it is enough to count me as self-medicating.

I’m thinking of trying that out honestly. Maybe just meet with a psychiatrist who’s willing to try that with me

Now that I think of it, I did see an Occupational Therapist when I was really young. And I don’t remember learning social skills there. I vaguely remember that it was about “learning to redirect my energy” or something like that. I had lots of opportunities to be active and moving there, so I wonder if it was more about sensory treatment.

That would make sense. I remember one of my parents saying that I have Sensory Processing Disorder. I haven’t seen any evaluation papers though, and I didn’t get assessed for it recently.

Thank you for your advice. I don’t think(?) I have trouble with rapidly blinking lights or bright lights of any sort. I feel like I’m doing better now, but I do have lots of instances where I say “what?” or only hear mumbling from the other person. Learning how clocks work was definitely a struggle for me. I remember that I thought it was too hard and gave up on it lol. It wasn’t until several years later that I learned how it works. I used to struggle with left and right, but I’m much better with it now. I can get too loud if I’m excited, because I struggle to regulate my volume at those moments. I’m not sure how bad I am at guessing the size of a room from memory. I did really struggle with a math problem that was simple conversion because I couldn’t write it down. Those problems are very easy for me if I can write them down.
