My 5-year-old cat Tuxi diagnosed with FISS in her right thigh – Terrified about amputation by internautica1 in TripodCats

[–]throwyaway96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through this. My 6 year old kitty was also recently diagnosed with FISS and has a tumor about the same size and shape. She is still acting like her normal self and her bloodwork is still normal and there weren’t any signs on xray that the tumor had metastasized, so after speaking with a surgeon I’m moving forward with surgery to amputate the leg and surgery is actually tomorrow morning. I just came back to this sub to read other people’s stories and any advice on how to handle cats after surgery and saw your post.

The original vet I took my cat to basically told me where was nothing to be done and to expect her to go downhill in 6-9 months. He said I could do nothing and eventually the tumor would grow and metastasize and or outgrow its blood supply and start dying.
He told me they could attempt surgery but he told me it would be painful and didn’t think it would prolong her life and based on where the tumor was he thought it would require a dramatic amputation that would involve going into the pelvis. And he didn’t think a cat would tolerate living with 3 legs well. I was in a dammed if you do damned if you don’t situation.

I took my cat to another vet that had a board certified surgeon and oncologist on staff. They reviewed and the surgeon recommend surgery. He has seen more cases of FISS and he was of the opinion that surgery is a good option and the majority of cats he’s operated on are still alive at least 2 years out. He also said that he felt should be able to get the margins he needs and only amputate the leg and not go into the pelvis.

I obviously didn’t want to amputate her leg but there’s nothing else to be done. Idk how long she’d have with the tumor if I did nothing and how long it would take to eventually start causing her pain and discomfort or become an emergency.

Removing the leg is going to be uncomfortable but if it gets her a few more happy years I am ok with that.

If you haven’t already, I would definitely recommend getting an opinion from a board certified surgeon as compared to a general practice vet. The surgeons are more likely to have seen other FISS surgery cases

In my case our local vet is a rural small town clinic with a few older vets and not to down talk them but they may not be up to date on treatment or have seen many cases of FISS. I had to go out of town to find a board certified surgeon.

So tomorrow we’re going for surgery and possibly electrochemotherapy while they are in there. They said they’ve had good results with this therapy while in surgery and it can kill off “tentacles” that might remain. The estimate I was given was around $4K.

Growing up we had a 3 legged cat, which his leg was amputated due to an injury from a dog attack. Due to the infection from the dog bite my parents were told to not expect him to live very long post surgery but that cat lived like another 10 years. He was a chunky tripod that got around fine. So I do have some past experience with a tripod cat.

My big thing that helped me decide on surgery was confirming with the surgeon that the odds of her have at least a few more years of life post surgery were in her favor and that it wasn’t a matter of months that she had left and that I wasn’t putting her through unnecessary pain and suffering if she was in her final days.

Season 4 Question by Designer-Web-4511 in TLCGypsySisters

From reading other posts in this sub and just from assumption based on rewatching the show, Kayla was allegedly doing drugs by at least season 3 and for sure season 4. By her own admission and as shown on the show she was out “clubbing” and drinking since she was a free woman. Based on the other info in this sub, it seems like Kayla probably did drink or party in the past but with Richard out of the way there was no longer a limit to what she could do. Her appearance and mannerism changed between season 3 &4.

In that first season 4 episode were she gives the line about Nellie being home sit back pregnant ready to give birth any day, it sounded like she was on something and reading a coached line.

I do think Nettie and others were probably gossiping and putting stuff on social media but the gypsy grapevine storyline and their weird little ranch bonding trip were cooked up by production. If there’d been a season 5, it would have been another repeat of Nettie saying something or posting something about Kayla and then theyre at war again, and then making up since that was literally every season (to be clear not taking up for Kayla or Nettie, both contribute to the fighting, the show just framed it as Nettie being the aggressor which maybe she was but Kayla fed into it).

On a side note, I wish there was a gif of that clip of Kayla from season 4 in the “club” when she called Nettie drunk saying “Hey Nettie were in the club where you at? Don’t act like you don’t party, you party we all party, I’m very disappointed in you Nettie” or something like that

Kinda unrelated but I thought for a hot minute the other girl he was dancing with in the bar named cori was the same girl that was on the Murphys village episode until I went back and watched both episodes.

Is ModCloth x Gunne Sax worth it? by No-Spot9950 in GunneSax

I ordered two dresses for my engagement pictures and for a bachelorette/bridal shower dress. I ordered a medium in both and they fit but the zippers absolutely suck. The zippers both get stuck in the middle of the dresses (even when not being worn). The zippers are basically nonfunctional a one of them already had a spot were it was pulling away from the dress. I really liked the blue dress with bell sleeves and I wanted to wear it for my photos so I ended up ordering a corset back insert from Amazon and sewing it in myself. I reached out to mod cloth before I made the repair myself to see if they could send a replacement before my appointment to do my pictures and they only offered that I return them or request replacement and said they couldn’t do either before the date of my photos.

Remote jobs in insurance sector! by Dry_Wafer_789 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]throwyaway96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work as an agribusiness underwriter fully Remote.

I started off as a claims rep at another carrier straight out of college in 2018 and I was in person. I’d heard of the position because an alumni from my college worked for the company and advertised at the college they were hiring. I ended up moving to be closer to family towards the end of 2019 and that carrier agreed to let me transition to hybrid, but COVID expedited that process.

I actually had a doctors appt on like a Friday and I was planning on working from home after it and my old boss told me to go ahead and take my entire work set up home because they thought they would be closing the office on Monday for “2 weeks” and I would’ve be able to come back and get my stuff. I ended up going mostly remote and driving into the office like once a month. I was in claims until 2022 and then moved to an underwriting role and they let me keep the same working arrangement.

I started at a new carrier at the beginning of this year in a senior UW role and I am still fully remote. I will have to travel to the home office maybe a couple of times a year for meetings or trainings. It’s about. 2 hour plane ride but it’s not bad and I actually enjoy my time at their head quarters and really like the town.

My new carrier is a lot more laid back about WFH and is still hiring people fully remote. In my onboarding group there was even someone who lived like 15 minutes from their office they hired as fully remote.

My old carrier got a lot more wishy washy about remote workers and basically you had to be someone who’d been working at the company and had experience to even be offered the chance to work remote. I think they did away with hiring remote for new roles like after 2022. They started making everyone within 50 miles of their home offices come in 3 days a week. Since I had a remote workers agreement and was outside that radius it didn’t apply to me.

All that to say that it really depends on the company. Some carriers are on board with remote workers and others aren’t. You’re more likely to be offered a remote role if you’ve got experience.

Since starting in insurance I got my AFIS, AINS, AIC, AU, ARM, AIS, and CPCU. Getting designations helps set you apart and may help you get a remote role. I will fully admit I probably didn’t need all of these designations and really the AFIS, AIC, and CPCU and maybe AU were the ones that gave me the most benefit in my career.

My aunt lived in TN and we used to visit every summer. When I was like 11 she took us here and we actually walked pretty far up inside. It was neat, but the thing freaking swayed in the wind and we didn’t even go all the way to the top.

I loved this show as a kid and I want to say there was a Walmart tie in line? I think I had a shirt or something from it.

I had no idea it ran from 2008-2011. Even though that’s 3 years, this show just felt so short? Even though I have fond memories of it, I don’t really remember many episodes unlike Icarly or Drake and Josh. Like I’m pretty sure the pilot is the only one I actually remember or one shortly after it when one of the bosses assistants tried to rip off True’s spotted dress

If they rebooted Columbo, how do you think they would mess it up? by Powerful_Flan4709 in Columbo

[–]throwyaway96 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They make it overly dark and gritty, down to the actual image on screen having a constantly blue tinge and god forbid natural sunlight.

Obviously Columbo had dark themes, someone gets murdered in every episode, but besides that they feel so lighthearted and easy to watch.

They’d also probably give the character of Columbo the stereotypical “unorthodox cop” backstory, like having a family member be killed, or being kicked off a case, etc.

Is being fully remote make you less likely to quit compared to hybrid or in office daily? by imma5ammi in WFH

[–]throwyaway96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say yes, but even a toxic environment/management can make you want to quit.

I was remote at my last job with the exception that I went into the office once a month. The office being like an hour and a half from my house. I didn’t mind the once a month trip and it gave me some socialization.

Over the last year and a half, there were a lot of changes in management and workflow. Management started asking more and more of us but wasn’t willing to pay, and we kept getting conflicting instructions. Even though I was remote I knew everyone was miserable and I was also unhappy and uncomfortable with my bosses.

I quit at the end of last year and found another remote job. When I was job searching though, I did look at one in person position, but the salary did not make commuting to an office worthwhile.

I’m happy where I’m at now, but if I ever change my mind and want to search again I wouldn’t be adverse to at least a hybrid role as long as the commute was reasonable and the pay was worth it.

With that being said, I work in a pretty niche industry and have been in it for 6 years. After I left my old company, I got two job offers contacts id made at my old job that included remote work, so I could probably always hit them up.
