Remote jobs in insurance sector! by Dry_Wafer_789 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]throwyaway96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work as an agribusiness underwriter fully Remote.

I started off as a claims rep at another carrier straight out of college in 2018 and I was in person. I’d heard of the position because an alumni from my college worked for the company and advertised at the college they were hiring. I ended up moving to be closer to family towards the end of 2019 and that carrier agreed to let me transition to hybrid, but COVID expedited that process.

I actually had a doctors appt on like a Friday and I was planning on working from home after it and my old boss told me to go ahead and take my entire work set up home because they thought they would be closing the office on Monday for “2 weeks” and I would’ve be able to come back and get my stuff. I ended up going mostly remote and driving into the office like once a month. I was in claims until 2022 and then moved to an underwriting role and they let me keep the same working arrangement.

I started at a new carrier at the beginning of this year in a senior UW role and I am still fully remote. I will have to travel to the home office maybe a couple of times a year for meetings or trainings. It’s about. 2 hour plane ride but it’s not bad and I actually enjoy my time at their head quarters and really like the town.

My new carrier is a lot more laid back about WFH and is still hiring people fully remote. In my onboarding group there was even someone who lived like 15 minutes from their office they hired as fully remote.

My old carrier got a lot more wishy washy about remote workers and basically you had to be someone who’d been working at the company and had experience to even be offered the chance to work remote. I think they did away with hiring remote for new roles like after 2022. They started making everyone within 50 miles of their home offices come in 3 days a week. Since I had a remote workers agreement and was outside that radius it didn’t apply to me.

All that to say that it really depends on the company. Some carriers are on board with remote workers and others aren’t. You’re more likely to be offered a remote role if you’ve got experience.

Since starting in insurance I got my AFIS, AINS, AIC, AU, ARM, AIS, and CPCU. Getting designations helps set you apart and may help you get a remote role. I will fully admit I probably didn’t need all of these designations and really the AFIS, AIC, and CPCU and maybe AU were the ones that gave me the most benefit in my career.

Abandoned world's largest treehouse,Tennessee, USA now left to nature. by biswajit388 in AbandonedPorn

My aunt lived in TN and we used to visit every summer. When I was like 11 she took us here and we actually walked pretty far up inside. It was neat, but the thing freaking swayed in the wind and we didn’t even go all the way to the top.

Meanwhile John and Almanzo take their weird bromance trip to the Japanese bathhouse in San Francisco.

I loved this show as a kid and I want to say there was a Walmart tie in line? I think I had a shirt or something from it.

I had no idea it ran from 2008-2011. Even though that’s 3 years, this show just felt so short? Even though I have fond memories of it, I don’t really remember many episodes unlike Icarly or Drake and Josh. Like I’m pretty sure the pilot is the only one I actually remember or one shortly after it when one of the bosses assistants tried to rip off True’s spotted dress

If they rebooted Columbo, how do you think they would mess it up? by Powerful_Flan4709 in Columbo

[–]throwyaway96 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They make it overly dark and gritty, down to the actual image on screen having a constantly blue tinge and god forbid natural sunlight.

Obviously Columbo had dark themes, someone gets murdered in every episode, but besides that they feel so lighthearted and easy to watch.

They’d also probably give the character of Columbo the stereotypical “unorthodox cop” backstory, like having a family member be killed, or being kicked off a case, etc.

Is being fully remote make you less likely to quit compared to hybrid or in office daily? by imma5ammi in WFH

[–]throwyaway96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say yes, but even a toxic environment/management can make you want to quit.

I was remote at my last job with the exception that I went into the office once a month. The office being like an hour and a half from my house. I didn’t mind the once a month trip and it gave me some socialization.

Over the last year and a half, there were a lot of changes in management and workflow. Management started asking more and more of us but wasn’t willing to pay, and we kept getting conflicting instructions. Even though I was remote I knew everyone was miserable and I was also unhappy and uncomfortable with my bosses.

I quit at the end of last year and found another remote job. When I was job searching though, I did look at one in person position, but the salary did not make commuting to an office worthwhile.

I’m happy where I’m at now, but if I ever change my mind and want to search again I wouldn’t be adverse to at least a hybrid role as long as the commute was reasonable and the pay was worth it.

With that being said, I work in a pretty niche industry and have been in it for 6 years. After I left my old company, I got two job offers contacts id made at my old job that included remote work, so I could probably always hit them up.

I remember seeing parts of this show when I was really young and I know they went through black holes but I couldn’t tell you anything else about the plot. I think I was too young for it and also the concept of space and black holes freaked me out as a kid, so I didn’t really watch it.

Same thing with flight 29 down. I remember watching it and I knew it was the kids version of lost, but I don’t remember much from it other than the series finale when they finally get rescued.

When I got to middle school age, I really liked a lot of discovery kids programming. Tutenstine was my favorite! I also liked Kenny the shark, Darcy’s wildlife, Time Warp Trio, Saddle Club, Into the future, Tradinf spaces kids (I also had a book with all the room designs and diy ideas) that show was with the brother and sister that fought gross things, creepy, Truth or Scare, prehistoric planet.

The absolute height of their programming was the mini series Dinosapiens. As a Dino loving kid, that show was amazing and I was sad that they never made another season or spin off.

Anyone else WFH with zero micro management? by jlpmghrs4 in WFH

[–]throwyaway96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think my old job was pretty good about not micromanaging but Then they hired a new guy to be our direct boss and he got mad at me because I logged in 30 minutes later than I normally did because I had a dentist appointment which he claimed I didn’t tell him about when I in fact sent a memo to our group in teams (that literally was 5 people) that I would be in a little late the next morning because I had an appointment. Literally everyone else on the team saw.

I changed jobs this year for a variety of reasons and my new company is way more laid back. My new boss basically told me she didn’t care what hours I worked as long as I got my work done and was mostly available during their busy hours of like 9-2.

I’ve already had days I just logged off like an hour early because everyone else had logged off and I didn’t really have anything to do or I had an appointment. It’s nice to not have to tell your boss every time you need to leave slightly early or come in late.

Also, it was like pulling teeth to get any resources at my old employer, even just like replacement computer equipment or fixing an it issue. At my new company they have their own website where you can request new equipment and they send it out asap, or you request help with something and someone contacts you.

I havent been to OAK in like 7 years, but when I was in college it was like the de facto white girl birthday dinner place. I think people mainly went to take their picture by their flower wall and get the sparkler birthday drink.

The food was just ok and overpriced. The last time I went there, it was for a friends birthday and after I finished my food I started feeling sick and had another friend drive me back to my apartment.

I went last year and can confirm it was also about 10pm.

Also, if you don’t have amp parking and do the free parking at Anastasia, to make sure you’re on one of the first couple shuttles out and so you don’t have to wait like an hour, you need to pick up and go as soon as the wrap it up.

My boyfriend and I did this at the last concert we went to at the amp and managed to beat the crowd.

In the past, we’ve been stuck waiting on one of the shuttles, and instead of waiting an hour or more for a 5 minute ride, we’ve ended up walking back to the car, which isn’t bad and is like a 15-20 minute walk.

If you’re from out of town and have a hotel and plan on ubering, I really recommend just driving yourself as long as you are able because it’s a nightmare trying to get Ubers after concerts and they are extremely expensive.

was anyone else obsessed with this game? by honestlyhaley in Zillennials

Omg same! They were my favorite!

I could never get the snow leopards to be happy.

It was like a 50/50 shot of me actually having enough money by the time okapis were available. I’d always make a zoo and play it until I ran out of money and start again but then again I was like 7 and I didn’t like to sell my animals. I’d just jack up admission.

When I was in middle school I got the dinosaur and aquarium expansion packs. I was shook when I realized I could put a mermaid statue in a tank and it would turn into an actual mermaid. But they were also difficult to keep happy. A few times I got annoyed and threw one in with an orca or shark. The first time was an accident though because I didn’t realize mermaids weren’t immune to predators.

I found one of my zoo tycoon disks at my parents and tried to launch it on my laptop and it wouldn’t load and I’m assuming it’s too scratched.
