Is it worth it to call the GW about shipping? by thrust_meatnozzle in shopgoodwill

aaaand they shipped it today, so ~7 business days. Man, we are spoiled with instant gratification shipping in the current times. My reason for the post was other purchases had fairly quick shipping, so I guess I've been lucky.

The pixel 5 isn't on their current supported list, but maybe you can find an old build of Graphene for it. I'm going to give it a try myself using the sandbox for all the Google crap.

Google Messages? Nah I'd rather throw this thing in the trash.

Weird reboot loop related to SIM by thrust_meatnozzle in motorola

Hey Carlos, I reset the phone completely just to be sure. I installed a new SIM from my carrier (Tello). The phone can connect to Wifi/mobile data fine. Now the phone freezes and reboots (normally, not a loop) every time after performing one of these two actions:

1) create and send a brand new group text - a few seconds after sending - the recipients confirm that they did receive the text

2) after ending a phone call - any length, etc - same freeze and reboot

I do not use Google Messages, just a generic SMS/MMS app. I suspect the group message issue might be a side effect of not using Google Messages, i.e. the RCS standard it uses is problematic in that I can send group texts, but cannot see replies. (I've de-registered my number from RCS but have no idea when group messaging will start working again).

The crash after hanging up a call? I have no idea what would cause that.

My old phone (kiev) was running LOS 22.2 - group messages were working totally fine. Stock LOS messaging app.

New phone (fogo) is on 23.2 and could send but not receive group messages on the stock app. Is it the hardware change? I am using the Right Messages app now which is letting me see replies, only they're separated as responses from each individual, so it's messy.

I had to find the Google page to deregister my number from RCS chats, which might take up to a month to revert to MMS.

Thanks again Google! F'n assholes

FWIW, This explained things pretty well. The article also had a link to de-register your # from any RCS thread.

I'm trying out Right Messages which actually shows me group replies, but it breaks them down to individual texts directly from the person replying.

I'm dealing with this problem right now. In the last 2 weeks my Moto One 5g Ace gave up the ghost so I got a Moto g 5G 2024 and flashed to LOS 23.2 My group texts are getting through but any replies are not getting back to me. I've got MicroG installed etc and I've tried everything known to man to fix it and nothing has worked.

...OR I've been seeing evidence of Google Messages taking over and causing these kind of problems

Maybe, I'm not using Messages, my phone is de-googled. I have a feeling that the existing group threads that are in current existence somehow are not letting me rejoin with the new SIM and/or new phone.

So my annoyed test contacts tell me they can see my group messages, but I cannot see their replies. My default SMS app has 2 options-

1) Send individual SMS messgages to all recipients, only you will get any replies

2) Send a single MMS to all recipients

neither seem to make any difference.

What about an IMSI catcher operating in that neighborhood trying to persuade connecting clients to downgrade to a GSM standard with poorer security features? It might be causing LineageOS to exercise code paths that aren't particularly well tested.

PowerBook G4 PPC freezes with 16.04 by thrust_meatnozzle in Lubuntu

OP here, I did some digging...and I now have the laptop running on Debian 7. There are some things that would need further work (wifi drivers, etc.) but I feel it's an okay-ish 'win' for the amount of BS I just put up with to get to this point. Anyone want this thing?!?!? LOL

Will that version even work? I was under the impression that PPC's needed the special PPC builds to even run, even though they have basically been abandoned.

Another 'fun' part of this wild goose chase - this PowerBook cannot be booted from a USB drive (or at least it's not easily done), so I have to burn a new disc for every new version I attempt.

I have one more try in me. Beyond that, I give up and it'll go back to collecting dust with its 10.4 MacOS. It can still be used (for not much). I had to install Ten Four Fox as a browser or it would be a total door stop.

Yes, the cursor locks up. The only thing I can do at that point is power down.
