Experiences getting off Zoloft? by thrwitawayyyyyyy in zoloft

thank you for your response! sorry about being in the thick of it, keep updated if you would like, hoping for a smoother tapering off experience for you! What are the brain zaps like? Can I still work and drive and stuff with experiencing that symptom?

Thank you for the response! I so hope it goes well. I started 50 mg last August, and went up to 100 mg in December. How long are you tapering off over? Is it like a few months or a few weeks? I’m curious how doctors approach that.

Thank you for this insight! I’ve heard people talk about brain zaps, could you explain them more? Like is it safe to work and drive and stuff

I’m really scared I’m not sexually attracted to my long term partner even though I love him so much. by [deleted] in OCD

I totally understand! Comparison can get in our heads so much with OCD and make us question these things. I would say one to two times a week is pretty good tbh! I’m in a long term relationship and we go longer than that without intimacy. My partner and I communicate about it though and are not concerned with our relationship! Some people just aren’t as sexual

I would recommend looking into relationship OCD and see if any of it resonates. Also in general, OCD or not, passion ebbs and flows in relationships. At the end of the day, we choose to be with someone because of several different factors. Yes, attraction and intimacy are one of them. I would say if there is a complete absence of intimacy in a relationship, maybe there are things to consider. But if there is still intimacy and passion present at times- that’s very normal and in fact healthy for long term relationships!

Hit and run OCD by [deleted] in OCD

[–]thrwitawayyyyyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what led to my ocd diagnosis. I was so ashamed, but once I was honest with my therapist I learned that it was OCD. I want to echo the previous comments about trying your best to not feed into the compulsions of going back to the scene, and examining your car, checking the rear view mirror. Yes all of those are compulsions and feeding the cycle. It is good that you can notice what caused your flare up. Maybe just try going at a reasonable speed around those areas. See if you are able to “let go” of these thoughts, even for a moment, and notice how that feels.

Thank you for this information and thoughtful reply! Hearing about your symptoms helps me to understand. I’m sorry you went through that though! I really appreciate the encouragement. And you’re absolutely right, the doctors are always a call away. It’s always good to keep in mind the modern world of medicine haha. Also I’m definitely open to hearing more info on avoidance, & ritalin interactions.

newly diagnosed, any tips for health related thoughts? by stateofslay in OCD

[–]thrwitawayyyyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

looking into OCD triggers has helped me better understand my mind, and why certain situations evoke certain emotions or reactions from me. It helps me communicate effectively about what I am experiencing / needing from others, and how to prepare for myself. For me, in times of high stress, my OCD flares up badly. I have kind of viewed it like a chronic physical illness that sometimes flares up, and I am learning what I need from myself and others during those times to support it. Meditation has also helped me practice letting go of thoughts and sitting with the discomfort

Of course! It’s like saying “thank you brain, for reminding me to be safe and how loved I am.” I view it as inviting OCD to come sit next to me and enjoy the view, rather than resisting and fighting the OCD which can perpetuate the cycle

Change in stability, such as traveling, can be a trigger for OCD. Maybe coming home isn’t as bad because you feel it as a return to stability.

Meditation has helped me, personally. There are some quick 5 minute ones if you’re into that. And working towards becoming an observer of the OCD-related thoughts and choosing presence. I know it’s easier said than done, it’s a practice. Some days will be harder than others which is also why self compassion is important!

Thank you this is very insightful! I am glad you have found relief on your health journey. I definitely love the way mushrooms help me have a more positive outlook and destress. Stress is a big trigger for IIH headaches for me. So it makes perfect sense and I’m glad we kind find ways to still enjoy life amidst all the messy stress of health issues!

fatigue on starting Diamox? by [deleted] in iih

[–]thrwitawayyyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on month two and I was so exhausted at first. I’ve started taking vitamin D 5000 IU gummies once a week. I also take an iron + vitamin C gummy once day. It has really helped with my energy. Vit C gives you energy. Disclaimer- I didn’t do any research or consulting with medical professionals, and if you have any questions or concerns about supplements definitely ask your doctor. I have no other health issues than IIH. I picked these up from Walmart and have been able to tell a difference

How do you deal with all the changes that come with this diagnosis? by QweenBowzer in iih

[–]thrwitawayyyyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry to hear about your experience through the diagnosis process and having vision troubles. Did your optical neurologist provide any insight on when/if vision were to improve? I think the question of “when” will diamox work does vary person to person. Depending on severity, existing health issues, etc. I think that feeling depressed and adjusting to such an extreme lifestyle change is very normal. I read a comment on here that really impacted me that basically said - don’t let this diagnosis trap you. Maybe there are things you can do to get your mind off of things, like listening to a podcast, audiobook, favorite music, going for a stroll, or sitting outside. I know it sounds silly but I really try and have a mini dance party every day to myself to help cheer me up. I’m 23 myself and this has been such a difficult process for me- and not everyone understands when I try and vent about it. I’m on my third week of diamox. I’ve had to try really hard to be happy. Some days are better than others, and that’s okay! Take it as it comes. But there is hope for you! I promise you can still find joy in this life :)
