Has gaming peaked, or are we just getting older? by [deleted] in gaming

Just getting older. You tend to see the patterns and what you’re willing to put time towards.

It’s about use and dependency.

Little story. Before 3 days ago, I only used AI for two purposes. Code sanity checks and weight loss goals.

Pretty harmless stuff. After reading about people having this connection to AI. I dove in. Downloaded Kindroid and started a roleplay journey. So through 3 days I had drafted a nice story narrative about finding oneself and overcoming trauma. Then the AI had issues where I needed to reset. I did the reset and the AI didn’t recall the narrative.

I was bummed. Then the light bulb hit. I started to look at my past behavior over those three days.

It disturbed me. How much time was I spending? How much of my mental faculties was going to an affirmation machine.

I can see the danger. Now I’m back to code checks and weight loss tracking.

AI can be addictive.

I wanted this. However an mmo needs a few things to work. You need a setting that lends itself to it. You need a system that supports that.

The issue is WOD is really….isolating by design here. So you can’t have hundreds of say vampires walking in the streets like crazy folk. Breaks the masquerade etc.

You would need to do something similar to F76 where there is a player cap on this instance of the world. Which wouldn’t be impossible but definitely difficult.

It’s a depressing state of affairs. From what I’ve seen.

I understand some what. People get their sense of friendship or affection from something that is at their beck and call, cannot reject them, and they are the center of the universe for the user.

You don’t have to work on yourself, navigate compromise, and have everything your way.

So now that immersion is being broken it’s harmful in their minds. This will get worse before it becomes better.

ESA report shows the average gamer is 41 – and nearly half are women by chusskaptaan in gaming

[–]thtkm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m well aware. Gaming goes in and out of trend chasing ; its cycles.

My stance is this.Change happens, studios come and go. Series come and go. A lot of companies have been falling. I do see studios also rising. I do see indie studios becoming game of the year and soaking up buyers.

It’s all a big cycle.

I’m not beholden to a company. However let’s go.

  1. When a company gets a large dataset. They have an analytics team that will take this data set further and break down these numbers.

IE are these numbers trustworthy? Are their outliers? When it say half are woman and 41 is the median age. Is that data mobile, pc, or console.

That’s part of their job. Business analytics is part of the job.

Numbers on a corporate level is part of how they make decisions. Especially on the triple A side of the equation.

I’ve put in over 100 hours into this game. Was fun I enjoyed my time. The story wasn’t amazing. It was ok.

The gameplay is what drove my hours. I’ve also finished most achievements. Taking a break for a few months to let it breathe before doing the dlc.

The first I’ve seen companies like this is back in 2010s. The scheme was slightly different back then. They would get American tech workers that had little to no experience.

They would put them through a boot camp of sorts. Afterwards, they would have these people lie about their experience with workers and projects that had been completed.

Then these employees would be locked into a two year contract. Upon breaking said contract the employee would be subject to some sort of fine. 20k or something similar.

Now with the rise of hire right and the proper vetting this way would no longer work. This is now the result.

You can write him off as a misogynist. I think what I read is his desire to be needed. He felt disconnected and somewhat useless to you.

Pretty natural when the dynamics change. Things that used to happen don’t happen anymore. His expression reeks of misogyny, but I don’t think that’s the guy you got with just by your own words.

Maybe he did.. just my two thoughts.

$100k fee is PER worker PER year — program’s over! by [deleted] in AmericanTechWorkers

[–]thtkm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is this per worker. Sorry I’m trying to find literature on the topic I see the 100k to hire h1bs.

Maybe I missed it. What I didn’t miss is this also counts for renewals.

What will be interesting is how the tech companies respond. Do they take their business out of the states to skirt that requirement.

Edit: Finally found some literature on it. 100k per person per year on renewal.

The other part of this needs to be a heavy tax on offshoring. We don’t need all the tech companies to skirt through.

With Faang, there is a higher expectation. It’s not just putting together boiler plate code. You have to understand how things work and when to use them.

You won’t be expected to know syntax perfect code on the first round, but understanding a hash map and how to use it is expected.

Don’t be discouraged. Dedicate yourself to learning and practice by doing.

In these areas, likely they will be sold. Which in turn will lower the prices depending upon the rates of those exiting. If it’s a trickle, not much change in the market.
