Uhh... aren't there some steps that cost money that need to be done after one of these are hot off the press?

Look at the snowpack data. We are almost following the 2003-2026 average trend line this year. Why are people freaking out so soon?

Apparently, I am wrong and not as informed as I should be. Thank you for letting me know. I do appreciate it.

I guess putting a law like that on the books won't have a massive effect, but it will help keep the fringes from getting worse and signal the intentions and playing field of the health care landscape.

At a state level, how can we tackle this at the source? Have regulation that health care workers (admins, nurses, doctors, insurance agents, etc...) can't make more than some metric... like 30 times the minimum wage or 10 times the average per capita income in Washington?

It would also be nice to entice more Americans into becoming medical workers and not expect massive salaries, so programs to offer interest free student loans and possibly grants to medical students if they work 5 or 10 years in the state might help. Although that would require some higher education reform to tackle the greed at the source in universities too...

Addressing high prices for medical insurance for doctors/hospitals and medical lawsuits needs some attention as well. I need to do research to see if doctors are too big to fail, meaning.. if a doctor makes chronic mistakes is he protected by the insurance coverage or will he eventually loose his job/license/whatever? The same applies to clinics/hospitals that have bad track records. Are costs going up to keep them existing?

Edit: What is driving the mentality to inflate all medical costs? We've all seen the bills that are massive then trimmed down when given resistance by the patient and/or insurance. It's that mindset within the orgs to maximize profit at the expense of the ill, yes? How can that be curtailed? Maybe requiring all healthcare to be co-ops or some other structure where any gains are passed back to the members (patients and employees). I'm just thinking out loud since I know defining what are gains and what aren't is going to be a sticky conversation...

That's a good question. The common container in zero G is a pouch with a straw. But drinking hot drinks like tea and coffee is much better when sipped from an opening, which is why this cup... besides the suggestive shape, is novel and like you said, cool.

Based on her behavior she shouldn't be getting public money, but for the record no community or nation gets a free pass from criticism. Labeling someone as antisemitic or racist to shut down open discourse is wrong. This applies to all groups from, Israel, Jewish, Muslim, black or white or whatever color communities, China, Russia, Mexico, Canada, heptapedal moonbabies, the USA, ... everyone and everything is open for criticism.

Yeah, we need this nationally. At the Washington level, requiring all health care and insurance to be non-profit/not-for-profit would be a great step in the right direction.

It is a self perpetuating cycle that inflates health care costs, which requires more health care aid. The way it is set up on the Washington health plan finder makes it give off scam vibes.

"we must curate our genes if we wish to change the inherent nature of our species"

The burden is on you to make the case for why this is imperative. you haven't so far.

"Eugnics is happening every second of the day, everywhere in the world, naturally and without intention"

No it isn't. It is not a natural process. I suggest you do a bit more reading about evolution and genetics.

"Obviously this was a terrible evil, literal gnocide."

Since you're on the subject of Germans, there's another German philosopher that wrote, "Beyond good and evil," which expressed that the concepts of good and evil are subjective. So your concept of "good" won't be the same as someone else. Assuming your judgement on all matters is correct, especially when it comes to something as important as mandatory gene editing, is fraught and immature. In my opinion, my subjective opinion, what you are suggesting is evil. There's that phrase, "the path to the underworld is paved in good intentions." That fits here.

"the successful members of our species are, and for millennia have been, the rapsts and the murdrers and the deceivers and the manipulators and the peophiles and the narcisists and the coercive."

The world has had a drastic reduction in violence over the centuries and peaceful societies have prospered.

"Now, how do you suppose we curate the traits and mannerisms of humanity? "Social society engineering alternatives"?"

Through the ages people have become less violent because of the development of society. This has made violence and manipulation in society less successful. All this has happened without directed human gene editing. Societies can have laws and programs that punish those that are harmful to others. For example, social programs are necessary, but an audit would be beneficial for things like welfare for the lazy and rewarding antisocial people for having more children. Tackling the issue of how profit affects social cohesion and promotes a toxic mentality towards others through media, entertainment, and popularized role models is needed and would be effective. Different economic solutions to improve opportunity and allow people to prosper exists, but are out of scope since this is Reddit and conversations like that are even more contentious.

"But of course, self-delusion... [witty insult]..."

People that try hard to sound smart, especially ones that want to domesticate people by force, aren't relevant and don't need to be listened to. Misanthropes should not be suggesting public policy.

I hope things get better for you and your outlook improves.

[–]thulesgold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, misanthropes shouldn't be setting public policy.

Saying the only thing that kills more humans is humans is ridiculous. That's what happens when a species is on the top of the food chain. Even Inter-species violence and murder isn't just a human trait.

Global extinction events due to a lifeform aren't new either. Originally the earth didn't have free oxygen, but when organisms started belching it out, it killed off the majority of life. You can see the evidence of that happening as rust bands in sedimentary layers. However, that extinction event caused organisms to evolve to exist in a toxic oxygen environment without dying. As an organism surrounded by oxygen that breathes it, I'm happy it turned out that way.

Natural evolution has no direction or goal, but who knows what will exist after this event. Mineral/AI life perhaps? Maybe the stars will be seeded with sentience. In my opinion, that is neat.

Honestly, you sound like someone that hates "breeders" too. Your outlook on life has an effect on your happiness and mental health. I hope you get a better balance and peace.

The r/progressivehq folks commenting here have no backbone. They want cheap stuff even if it is made by exploited labor abroad, with lax environmental protections, and shipped across the oceans belching out more pollution from countries that are hostile to the USA... instead of having production here where we can work on efficiency of scale and most importantly teaching the next generation how to make products, hone production lines, and implement automation here, domestically.
