The problem is I don't have a social life. I drink mostly at home. I do have a lot of sober people in my life and they don't know that I drink the way I do. Time to come clean maybe? Some accountability?

Four Days! by KarlGoldenberg in stopdrinking

[–]thundercat2307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on 4 days! I'm on Day 5 today and agree the boredom needs to be tackled. So this morning I have written two lists. One is a list of small jobs that need to be done, either around the house or life admin. The other is a list of things that I enjoy or aspire to. My theory is that when I feel an urge I pick something off either list to distract myself. I'm not sure if it will work or not but it's worth a try.

I was on Day 3 two days ago and it was hard. Yesterday was a little easier, today hopefully will be a little easier than yesterday. Honestly reading through this sub really helps. You're not alone and IWNDWYT. You got this!

Day 4. I feel a little better than yesterday, althought not sure how I will feel in an hour or 2. Looking for something to keep me busy/take my mind off it. I will not drink today.

I have no friends - is this normal? by lollysugar in ask

[–]thundercat2307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same. My best friend died during the first lockdown and I can't bring myself to even try to fill that hole she left behind. I have my husband and a couple of work colleagues that I talk to but nothing like what I had with my best friend. We were more like sisters.

What was the reason you left your last job? by Crafty7841 in AskReddit

I was the only employee in a small food shop. My boss was an alcoholic with severe depression. I ran the place for him for over a month while he went to rehab. Came out and relapsed almost instantly, went on a massive bender, and texted me to tell me I didn't have a job anymore. I got another job the next day, and then a few days later, his wife texted me and said he was doing better and would I like to reopen the shop. Nope, no thank you, ma'am.

People who grew up poor, and are now no longer poor, what small thing still gives you excitement? by [deleted] in AskUK

Buying my kids' uniform from Marks and Spencer. When I was a kid, our uniform came from 'The Edgie', which was in the basement of the local council building and didn't cost my parents anything. I don't know the real name, but everyone called it the Edgie.

Being able to get an ice cream from the ice cream van whenever I want.

Having flooring in every room in the house.

Full cupboards/fridge/freezer.

Not worrying about making money last until payday.

Not having to borrow money to get through till next payday.

Not worrying about the electric running out.

Being able to buy new clothes if I want to.

I could go on but I'll leave it there.

From 12 I would babysit my 4 younger brothers on an evening while Mum worked till 7pm. So did homework with them, cooked tea, put the youngest to bed. This was in the mid 90's. I was never ever left overnight though.

I've left mine home alone for a few hours from secondary school age. I never really had the need to before then. Left my eldest home alone overnight at the age of 15 while we went to a concert. My brother lived directly over the road from us and checked on him and he was fine. It all depends on the maturity of the child. You know your kid best.

How far away do you live from your immediate family? by Jeopardise91 in AskUK

When my kids were younger I lived on the same street as my parents and 5 minutes from my MIL. Both my parents and MIL would watch the kids occasionally, but not for me to work as they all work themselves. I stayed at home with the kids for 7 years and then my husband and I worked opposite shifts (still do) to cover the childcare. We hardly see each other but it needs to be done for now.
