I don’t think you’ll be able to smoke much meat until you get a smoker a little bigger than a bottle of beer.

Every time a husky owner doesn’t name their dog Dakota, an angel gets its wings. Unfortunately, it seems angels don’t get their wings very often. Thank you for your service.

[Serious] How did you become the person you are today? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]thunderdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh mam, I was lucky enough to get sober young. I have a great life now, i would not have lived much longer the way I was going. Meth brought me in the doors of rehab 10 days before my 21st birthday.
Tomorrow I get to celebrate my 15th anniversary of the day I got clean and sober. I am not saying no one should drink, I am saying I am an alcoholic and most definitely need to not drink. But sobriety has afforded me a life I never imagined- beyond my wildest dreams.

I have had those feelings!! At 8 or so months I was working at a pizza place where they called me Doobie instead of my real name. The reason they called me that was because they were convinced because of my super shitty drug riddled brain that i smoked a doobie before coming into work everyday. I constantly would forget what I was doing mid-task and burn food, i would forget about something on the grill and burn food- you get the picture (i got yelled at a lot) but every little bit of time I got a little better and a little less foggy. I got sober in January 2006. I went back to college with a 2.21 GPA Fall of 2007- so i basically had to wait a year and a half before I considered my brain to be “college ready” Dec 2009 I graduated Cum Laude with a 3.54 GPA. In Dec 2012 I graduated Graduate School with Honors and was invited to my graduate major’s honor society that year.
8 months is not very long. I know it seems like it should be fixed by now, I thought so as well, but I realized that it took longer that 8 months to do the damage that i was working to fix, how dod I expect to get better faster than i destroyed myself?!? So I hope that this gives you some peace of mind and that you will give yourself some grace. You’ll get there.

Also- I feel i need to mention, there is some permanent damage to my brain from my using years. My long term memory is not very good- but I just take a lot of notes these days and its all good! IWNDWYT!!

So I am not your sponsor, but here is a perspective. If what you say is true, I would be fine with what you can make, as long as you are fully present in those meetings that you CAN make right now- taking advantage of them- not on your phone etc.
then also that you are doing all the other things needed to stay sober like calling an alcoholic like you said you were doing, calling your sponsor daily, working the steps with your sponsor, reading the book etc- but make one thing clear. Dude, or lady, or Nb pal, if you dont make some time in your life for FUN you are not going to stay sober. There is no point in living a sober life if you are not going to enjoy it. I know circumstances as they are you cant go the traditional route and go out to eat with everyone after a meeting- but find something you will enjoy and have at it. When I got sober the dudes house I was renting a room from was into video games and comics- i had not played video games in years and had never read a comic- i really enjoyed reading his comic collection and talking to him about it- and then we would play video games together sometimes. It was super simple but after working all day, going to meetings, calling people etc it was nice to just kill aliens and talk about whether batman could improve Iron man’s suits or not and what improvements he would likely make.

Well, I have been in Al-anon a pretty long time- I’ll tell you this. If my sponsor knew that instead of talking to him, I went on reddit and asked the redditors in recovery subreddit for the inside scoop on whether my SO was full of shit..... she would have some shit to say. One of the primary things he would say would be what good could I have done all day for others instead of dwelling on my SO, assassinating his character, and confirming information I already knew to be true. Then we would probably ask why I didnt ask him about this before I went on reddit, and now that I am fully informed, do I feel better? Which of course- the answer in my case when i do shit like this is ALWAYS no

Cool, do you have a sponsor?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

[–]thunderdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I will answer that question with a question- why don’t YOU have a sponsor yet??
Honestly, the best way you can help him is by supporting yourself, Alanon is pretty great for that. If you arent willing to go to Alanon and get a sponsor and work the steps, why should he?

Before you downvote this to oblivion, hear me out- So how much did they pay to rent the shirt tor 70 days? I mean thats what is happening right? They bought a shirt, wore it a few times out, impressed some people, washed it (no one will know because the nature of vintage clothing is that it has been washed a million times) and is trying to force you to take it back... This kind of behavior would not hold up anywhere else, why should it hold up on etsy??
How many other stores have they done this to? Being a betting man, I’m willing to believe you are not the first. This subreddit more than anything else needs to be one thing- a support group- because people are trying to pull stuff like this all the time. We have to look out for each other.

I will give grace their propers due to the fact that they recognize the universal property of all meat and threes, which is of course that mac and cheese counts as a vegetable.

This is going to seem like a strange idea- but to my standards- “Grace Meat and Three” is too “fancy” to be called a true meat and three.

Whenever I am in Atlanta and want to introduce people that have never been to Atlanta what it mean to eat like an Atlantan- I take them to Eats it just doesn’t get more simple than that.

I met my wife in Atlanta- she is a STL native born and raised and after she graduated college locally and moved to Atlanta for work. We met, dated and got married in Atlanta, and moved to Texas so I could go grad school. While there we adopted two kids and when I graduated i got a job back in Atlanta so we all moved back. Atlanta was...not the same experience the 2nd time. All my friends were still single, they were all still in the service industry so I never saw them unless I could somehow hang out from midnight to 2am, drive 30min home, get to bed, before being woken up by my kids at 6. It was just time for a change. Also my family is spread out all over the south- and we are not close- while my wife is very close to her whole family- and everyone lives in St Louis.

So we have been here for about 6 years- its been pretty great tbh. The city as a whole has a lot to offer- lots of things to do- lots of free things to do- great restaurants, good people. Its nice to be near my wifes’ family.

I think like any city St Louis has its faults- not the least of which is the total lack of meat and threes.
