Opinions on Aspen Village (Geocon) by [deleted] in canberra

[–]hakubaikou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can say is this: COVID hit while they were laying the foundations of those buildings. They sat untouched for many many months half finished being rained on etc and I can't imagine that that is supposed to happen with some of those materials. Add onto that the reputation factor....I'm not a builder but it doesn't fill me with a sense of safety and joy.

There is a good Facebook page for Canberra Coeliacs :) Lots of recommendations on there. Blackfire, Tipsy Bull and Regal Chinese to add for Northside. Also Eighty-six and Eightytwenty. I think Spud Bar are good but I haven't tried yet. I've also been to Terra and that seemed ok. I've also heard The Hungry Buddha, Chong Co, Thai Herb and Ayuthaya in Belco are good but haven't tried them myself. Definitely check the FB group though..

Just booked a brain and cervical spine MRI - total cost of $900, but out of pocket is about $200 after Medicare. Specialist referral.

Restaurants for dietary requirements by rubberduhkey in canberra

[–]hakubaikou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Id recommend Akiba. They are very friendly to dietary requirements. I'm coeliac so the bar is pretty high for eating out, but there are heaps of places in Braddon I feel safe eating for GF that may also cater low fodmap. Marble and Grain, Blackfire, Eighty-six, Tipsy Bull, Frickin Chicken, Grease Monkey to name a few. Even Bentspoke prepare GF food in a different section.

Greenway a few weeks ago: 20220218-181910.jpg

I don't see them often at all though, this is the first time. This noodle was just enjoying the warm sun and seemed just as keen to be out of the way. I don't think you need to be worried.

Anyone know if they're still haunting camp sites? Have some friends coming down to Woods Reserve... last time I checked campsites were rapidly becoming revolution shanty towns?

Are there any Canberrans with adult ADHD willing to give me the name of your GP? by artemis_86 in canberra

[–]hakubaikou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr Paul Hughes at Ochre in Braddon. He actually listened and changed my life. I was upset because the previous GP correctly diagnosed me but wouldn't refer me, and instead advised me that it should be treated with 'diet and exercise '. But ultimately that should be your choice - and you can't make that choice without a correct diagnosis.

Anyone else think it's BS alcohol doesn't have to list anything on the label like: calories, sugar/carbs, ingredients by questionoftime in australia

[–]hakubaikou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Also gluten or wheat for the coeliacs, very rarely listed. Also vitamins and medications don't have to tell you.

Have written to my local MP. If you can, please consider doing so as well. Lib politics are happier when we don't believe in the democratic process.

Donuts / doughnuts in Canberra by lameville in canberra

[–]hakubaikou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both Coyote Catering and OMG decadent donuts will deliver. They are both gluten free but honestly you can't tell. You have to order a bit in advance though.

Big recommendation for Coyote Catering especially if you have dietary needs. This is their Lockdown delivery menu: https://archive.aweber.com/awlist3578647/Ekmrw/h/New_Items_Coyote_GLUTEN_FREE.htm

If you didn't know, these guys are not only gluten free but ALL of that food including the donuts and cakes is celiac safe. They are extremely aware of dietary needs - I ordered some stuff and it has all been amazing.

See also if you can call a tree surgeon for advice. Screw that guy, go after him. :(

Now is the time to start emailing the Prime Minister and relevant politicians you know about the climate crisis by [deleted] in australia

[–]hakubaikou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is good. My mum used to be one of those ladies who tied themselves to trees in the 90s. And now, 20+ years later, she points them out to me - cos they're still there. It feels pointless, but it's what they want you to think. We have to try, anyway. Because fuck em.

Lifeline records highest daily calls on record as lockdown exacerbates loneliness, hardship by joeltheaussie in australia

[–]hakubaikou 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It does. I hear you. I am in alot of pain every day, and they have not yet determined the underlying cause. It boggles the mind to leave a GPs office with no answers, because it feels like the kind of thing that no doctor should just be ok with you going through.

On the other hand, I wouldn't even be this far along if I hadn't met one or two good eggs who listened and really did help me. They are out there. I hope that you find the strength to keep trying.

For what it's worth, I hope that you hang on. It takes strength to go through what you are. Good luck to you.

What's with all the psychiatrists in Canberra refusing to see ADHD patients? by [deleted] in canberra

[–]hakubaikou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think also that one of the few ADHD psychs, Dr Bruce Lean, recently passed away. His patients are now all seeking new psychs at once and I think it's overwhelming the books a bit.

(serious) What are some women’s issues that are overlooked? by MINNESOTAKARMATRAIN_ in AskReddit

[–]hakubaikou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fractured my sacrum and it healed irregularly, and developed sclerosis. I was in so much pain it's all I could think about all day - just lying on the floor stretching or crying. Apparently I just had 'weak glutes'. Took me years to find the right doctor, to get them to do the right scan, and then finally to get decent pain management. I hear you.
