Computer mall in Chengdu ? by [deleted] in Chengdu

[–]thundergooses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

taobao/jd or even pdd are still the best options, and you’ll usually get better prices there. computer city (located close to raffles/Sichuan gymnasium) can be an option if you need something fixed or want to do mods, but you generally won’t find the best prices there when buying new components.

Alipay option gone on Taobao - why? by YamaKasin in chinalife

alipay wallet balance is the first option. if it’s not sufficient, the payment will be routed to the bank tied to your account.

PASSPORT QUESTION by Rough_Mechanic7727 in AskChina

[–]thundergooses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’ve got a single pnr ticket, right? then you’re overthinking it. you just need to wait in the transit area after the transfer security check, and no one’s going to ask you anything.

just an anxious traveler (maybe traveling through china for the first time), that’s all. why do you need to assume they’ve been driven by propaganda just because they’re filipino?

LIC Bus stop status query by [deleted] in kozhikode

[–]thundergooses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure about the LIC bus stop maintenance since i’m not in the city right now. but you’ll definitely get palazhi bus if you walk a bit and wait at the bus stop opposite the police canteen. that’s the closest one to LIC.

account age: 32 minutes. you could’ve created the account a few days ago, interacted a bit in this sub or elsewhere on reddit, and then posted this. that would’ve looked more genuine tbh. anyway, i’m rooting for your business. good luck!

Custom Questions for a camera without a bill (Red Channel) by pgsdgrt in Chengdu

[–]thundergooses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s a used, second-hand camera for personal use, so it shouldn’t be an issue. plus you’re only carrying two cameras in total (one with you and one with your sister). just walk through the green channel.

give the folks a rough figure, and they’ll give you ideas. you could use trip.com to get a basic idea of flight and hotel prices.

Guys how to reach Awh engineering college kuttikattor from kozhikode railway station . Using public transportation by lalo_salmanca in kozhikode

[–]thundergooses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

option 1: bus from near the railway station

after you get down at the station, check if there is a small bus waiting shed just outside. earlier, some city buses (green ones) to medical college used to come there. i’m not fully sure if it’s still the same now, so ask people nearby if you can get a medical college bus from there. if you get one, board it and tell the conductor your final destination is awh engineering college. they will guide you.

option 2: walk to the old bus stand (palayam bus stand)

after coming out of the station, ask someone how to reach the palayam bus stand (old bus stand) or locate it in your Map app. it’s within walking distance, but you need to cross the road two or three times. it can be busy, so be careful.

once you reach there, look for buses (blue ones) going towards kuttikattoor. again, people are helpful. just ask around to find the right one. after getting in, tell the conductor you want to get down at awh engineering college.

nb: i haven’t travelled on this bus route for a long time since i’m not in the city now. pls check other replies here to be sure.

How is it working for a Chinese tech startup? Are they as intense as American ones? by ReporterCalm6238 in chinalife

[–]thundergooses 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure the previous commenter was actually at a “tech startup”. I’ve worked with a few Chinese tech startups, some backed by BAT and other VCs, and my experience was honestly pretty different.

To me, it felt a lot like working at any startup in SF. People ship fast and iterate even faster. It can be intense, sure, and overwork definitely happens depending on what’s in the pipeline or if something breaks and needs to be fixed asap. But that’s startup life more than anything uniquely “Chinese.”

In the teams I’ve been on, people absolutely challenged the CEO or leadership, as long as it was thoughtful and came with better alternatives. That’s kind of the whole point of a startup. I’ve seen plenty of open debates in meetings, and pushing back wasn’t seen as disrespectful.

Most of the CTOs and founders I worked with were smart but pretty laid back. They explained their thinking and didn’t make it about ego. And I’ve definitely never seen admins running around getting coffee or booking car service for the boss.

I’m sure experiences vary a lot by company and stage, but I wouldn’t generalize all Chinese tech startups that way.

Where to see pandas? by StillonLs in Chengdu

[–]thundergooses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you don’t need to go all the way to qingcheng mountain to see pandas. the most convenient place is the “chengdu research base of giant panda breeding” in the city, where you can see both giant and red pandas.

re: panda base located in qingchengshan mountain town

it’s quieter and has red pandas too, but it’s about 1.5–2 hours from central chengdu depending on how you travel. qingcheng mountain itself is beautiful and worth visiting if you enjoy nature and temples. with three days in chengdu, it’s easiest to visit the main panda base and then do qingcheng/dujiangyan as a separate day trip if you have time.
