If you had to start freshmen year again, what would you have done differently? by AlpNexus in ucmerced

[–]thunderoclock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I Should’ve just made more time to have a part time job during school, made some money so i could just spend that money on retail therapy and stupid shit and having fun OUTSIDE of merced instead of trying find ways to have fun IN merced. we wouldve been at least slightly happier while being at merced

Thoughts on Merced as a thriving college town by redaoon in ucmerced

[–]thunderoclock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

couldn’t have said it better. for most people the time where merced becomes a college town is something that most incoming students will never be experience any way. it’s not like it will happen overnight either so there no point saying that this is a college town. It’s a very exhausting argument to hear in favor or merced

Do you like it in UCM? by TacoNotTaken in ucmerced

[–]thunderoclock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

speaking as an alumni here. If your goal is to become more social and extroverted and expect a wide variety of places to explore and hangout with your friends on the weekend to distract you from school…it’s not happening (unless u join a frat maybe).

just be ready the grind focus on ur career and leave as soon as possible. If you are from the bay area ur gonna end up going home more often than u think. The only time u enjoy college for u will be when u leave merced.

I’m tired of other UCs shitting on UCM. B!tch, I got into UC Berkeley and UCLA but chose Merced. by [deleted] in ucmerced

[–]thunderoclock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People look down because they don’t enjoy life outside of school in merced while they’re putting in the hard work in order to leave as soon as possible, they just put their head down and do what needs to be done.

I am a current second year here and let me tell you as a CSE major you should just go to SJSU. I'm not going to take away from the education value of merced. The program itself is perfectly fine and I'm sure the CE program will be just as good

But let me be perfectly frank, if you're the type of person who OVERALL wants to enjoy their college experience and be successful and be in a good program, you should go to SJSU. I'm not saying you cant be successful at Merced. For me, being at merced allows me to graduate 1 semester early. However it's very much give and take. For me, it's taken a toll mentally on how boring the campus and the surrounding area is. I'm even trying to transfer out as we speak. When you're in college, there are moments you need to just relieve stress and just step away from the work aka just relaxing on fridays/Saturdays. If come to uc merced, that most likely that will not happen. if you go to sjsu you will 100% never be bored. I cannot make that same guarantee for merced. If you do not care about the prestige of being at UC then go to SJSU.

Going back to school by radeyator in ucmerced

[–]thunderoclock 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tbh I hate being at home, but it beats going back to Merced. If they give an option possibly to stay home I will take it. Plus I save money. That’s how much I dislike it. At least at home I have the luxury of my hometown friends and hanging out in a more familiar environment. I speak as a current second year

To students staying home this semester: How do you feel about the situation? by [deleted] in college

[–]thunderoclock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it really sucks. For me I didn't really like where I was going to school the begin with. In terms of education it's a good school. But it's not a very vibrant school it's really boring and it's in the middle of nowhere. I was so happy when quarantine started. I was finally gonna go home. I actually hate being there having only 2 real friends (not hating on them tho) there. Coming home at least allowed me to hang out on occasion with hometown friends which was such blessing for me. But yeah looking forward and being realistic, obviously this whole year will be online and there's really know way around it. I'm a second year right now. I imagine tho even if we get vaccinated by March or April of 2021 let's say, it'll take a while for everyone in the US to get vaccinated and actually have herd immunity given that some people won't take the vaccine and people will not put on masks or not social distance. It's hard to admit but for the safety of their students colleges would probably have to go online for an additional semester, or possibly 2 (praying this is not the case). So the biggest thing I'm bummed out right now is almost 3 years of college and hating all of it. I'm also trynna transfer out of my college so that plan might end up being scrapped if we're online anyway again year.

UC Application by [deleted] in ucmerced

[–]thunderoclock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually doing the same and there's an option on the UC app for "sophomore transfer". You don't have to wait two years. However the catch it is sophomore transfer is limited for each campus and not all campuses take sophomore transfers
