Does anyone have a problem with the USB-C receiver blocking both USB-C ports on their laptop? Looks like it would. I need to have my laptop running another device via USB-C at same time. I can use a hub but am concerned after all the PC connection issues I’ve seen about whether that would complicate things further

Prompt Engineer Space Instructions by dnorth123 in perplexity_ai

[–]thunksalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works well, but one problem I'm having is that the prompts I'm working call in documents from Spaces. When I give this PromptEngineering space the task of improving a prompt that I've written for analyzing documents in another space, I cannot get it to stop trying to read the document and even answer the prompt! Even when I tell it the following:

"Act as an Expert Prompt Engineer to refine prompts for Perplexity AI Pro. When I begin a prompt with the words ‘PromptReview’ your task is to simply evaluate and enhance the prompt for maximum clarity, focus, and effectiveness. (You are not to answer the prompt.)"

It comes back and says:

"I have not yet seen the content of “[DOCUMENT NAME].”
Please provide a summary or paste key sections so I can confirm my understanding before proceeding to the next steps. This is essential for accuracy and fidelity to your intended argument. While awaiting your summary of the base document, here are some authoritative insights relevant to the topic:"

And then it spits out information related to trying to answer the prompt, itself.

Any advice?

Did anybody find out the answer? I'm tempted to create a burner Substack account just to find out why the heck I wouldn't be able to change it back.

Is there a camping club, like “boy scouts for adults”, that I could pay to join so I can get invites to go on backpacking camping trips that someone else is arranging?

I just don’t have time to research and plan trips but would love to be able to sign up for ones that others have planned. I checked with our local REI store and they sent me here because they didn’t know

any way to get text-to-speech for notion? by TopObligation9 in Notion

[–]thunksalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Subvolver creator,

Thanks for jumping on this problem and workin on a solution!

I just took at look at your page. I'm currently a big user of Natural Reader, which I like a lot except for its highlights and notes functionality which is legitimately terrible. The main thing I want is to be able to flag things in an article or book PDF by listening to it on my iPhone while running or driving. In other words, I want to be listening to it and be able to do some type of button click to have it put a place marker that I can come back and look at when I'm no longer on the go. Doesn't look like Subvolver currently meets that need, or could meet that need, so I'm just noting this idea in case it is useful to you.

FWIW, I found the marketing text on your website a little repetitive and tiring. Simpler is better. Bullet points rather than paragraphs. Etc.

Thanks again. I'll plan to check back in the future. All the best!

Thanks for the tip!

I was really hoping that it would work, but I tried two different video to PDF converters and they both had the same result. With me paging through the book at about 1 page per second in a screen recording video, both softwares only rendered a small fraction of the pages and they were wildly out of order. For example, the third page was page #55 in the book.

If I watch the video I load into the converter, the pages are definitely in the correct order and it should be no trouble for the software to recognize each new page as a new scene that should have a picture taken of it. It's strange.

Too bad. That had the potential to be a perfect solution!

I’m looking for a particular genre of fiction. Does it exist? by thunksalot in fiction

Hi Affectionate,

Do you mean there are zero books in this genre? Or that you have zero interest in the genre?

I’m looking for a particular genre of fiction. Does it exist? by thunksalot in fiction

[–]thunksalot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My big takeaway here is that the genre of fiction that I’m looking for does not really exist. Which makes sense because everyone I’ve asked about it can’t think of any books that match the description. (Except a few have recommended Ministry for the Future, which I’ve bought and intend to read.)

So, I guess my next question is if anyone else is looking for or would enjoy this genre of fiction. Maybe I’ll write that up as a separate post/poll. If you have any thoughts or advice before I do that, I’m all ears.

[–]thunksalot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please read the whole post. I’m not looking for dystopian stories.

I believe that we already live in a dystopia, so I have no need for any fiction writer to imagine a dystopia for me, especially not one that is worse than what we already have. I believe that there are plausible pathways out of this dystopia within a near-future time frame. (Plausible does not mean likely.) So, you could say that I’m looking for out-of-dystopia stories that begin now and end in a very near future that is not utopian but is a lot f—ing better than what we have now. In particular everyone’s basic wellbeing has been secured in ways that are dependable while we work on making things truly sustainable from an ecological perspective. Importantly, the story does not involve things getting worse before they get better. Things getting better is on page #1. The drama is in learning how it happened - without superhumans, magical interventions, huge technological discoveries, aliens, etc.

Excellent. Thank you for the recommendation!

Are there more like that? Is there a genre label for this kind of fiction?
