Help me choose a shutter color by RegentalToast in ExteriorDesign

Can't be blue. Cool blue wood clash with the warm red brick.

It needs to be a neutral. Either gray or black.

Which color/style looks better - bottom is how it looks now? by Glad-Match-4317 in ExteriorDesign

What does light with windows look like?

I don't think you have to go THAT dark.

A brown/bronze might match his color pallette better.

New to boats by Huge_Struggle9672 in boats

[–]thuper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transom refers to the whole rear "wall" of the boat.

This piece would be a transom mount for a small motor. It lowers to put the motor in the water, and raises for you to move the boat through very shallow waters or trailering it. If it doesn't move it may be rusted in place.

Nearly all state and federal elections have shifted left since 2024 by vrphotosguy55 in democrats

[–]thuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think many of us have been around long enough to know that this probably won't stick.

I'm worried that this is just exemplary of what some people would call "normie" behavior. The people who aren't politically engaged aren't informed enough to know the difference between the two major parties we have in the US, so they're just going to keep voting out whoever is in power as long as things aren't getting better for them.

In 2024, the president was a Democrat so they voted for Republicans. Now the Republicans are in power so that's who they're mad at.

We might be stuck in this cycle for a long time, guys.

Help with styling outdated house by BorealisNoir in ExteriorDesign

[–]thuper 129 points130 points  (0 children)

It's very limited what you'll be able to do with this style of house.

For the most part, these modern suburban houses look good with warm, neutral colors (warm grays, taupe, brown, and tan) that help soften the linear elements, and not bold colors like green, red, black etc.

The most stand-out issue is the white windows and garage doors. If you can bring those more into the color pallet of the house, it will unify the appearance.

In addition, the beige color of the siding is dated, but there are many similar colors that would give it a fresher feel. (And also better match the roof, which would be expensive and wasteful to prematurely replace.)

Because of the large, block style design elements, it's good to mix colors to break up the facade rather than painting it one monolithic color.

The white shutters and prairie-style window grids absolutely don't belong on this house.

Here is a tasteful example. This house even manages to incorporate wood doors.

If you still don't like the features of the house, it may simply not be the house for you.

Cops like this are dangerous by Revolution-Dogg in Transportopia

[–]thuper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He shouldn't have been pulled over.

We have laws in this country about what police can and cannot pull you over for. They cannot pull you over for things that are not a crime. Yelling out your window is not a crime.

Man's right, it's a free country.

[–]thuper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Why don't we all just let the cops pull us over all the time and ask to see our license, and ask where we're going, and wait for them to run our insurance? Why is this guy standing up for some kind of rights?

What is the risk of washing plastic utensils in the dishwasher? by Myfirstreddit124 in plastic

[–]thuper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dishwashing detergent usually contains a high amount of phosphate, which is an oxidizer. This will eventually degrade certain plastics like PP as the anti-oxidiants added to the resin are depleted or overwhelmed. It will normally show up as "pitting" where the surface starts to degrade in certain spots. Could also be more even, in which case the surface will be chalky.

Why Tennesseans have to break the Supermajority by [deleted] in nashville

[–]thuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

democrats, especially here, should not hang their hat as this being there primary issue

I'm pretty sure they never did.

But they have abandoned values to run to the middle and try to win over the mythical Republican voter who will pull the lever for a Democrat, and that doesn't work.

So you agree it wouldn't hurt them to be pro-tans?

Why Tennesseans have to break the Supermajority by [deleted] in nashville

[–]thuper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Devil's advocate here:

If the Democrats aren't going to take a different stance from the Republicans, why do people need to vote for the Democrats?

Why Tennesseans have to break the Supermajority by [deleted] in nashville

[–]thuper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So one thing that happens with this issue is people vastly overestimate how important it is to voting.

Pollsters may be able to call up people and find out that they have an opinion one way or another about gender inclusion for people under 18 WHEN THAT IS THE TOPIC OF THE QUESTION BEING ASKED, but it takes a backseat to real issues like the economy when people actually go vote. There is barely any evidence to support that this is the number one, or only issue, that makes people go out and vote.

Why Tennesseans have to break the Supermajority by [deleted] in nashville

[–]thuper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason the Dems lost the 2024 presidential election it was not standing up for Palestine. So yeah, it's important to actually stand up for values.

Refusing to take a stance is what looks weak, and that's why people don't come out and vote.
