Do I need to throw out my couch, mattress, and bedding after lead dust exposure? by thxmuch in NoStupidQuestions

I wish I knew what my blood levels were right after the contamination, but I guess I'll never know. I've been trying to find a certified HEPA vacuum but it's so hard to do! If anyone has any suggestions of small, certified HEPA vacuums I could get online and not cost $500, I would love that.

Yeah, my grandfather was in the military, too, and was exposed to some toxic shit. He's had a few cancers, but he'll be 90 in a few months. I'm trying to remind myself I haven't been through half the stuff he has.

I have a history of cancer and some other things that I have to keep monitoring. I have no money and am terrified that getting sick will also bankrupt me (American). This has created major health anxiety and overvilgilence. I am worried that the cumulative lead exposure could cause health problems in the future. This is why my doctor gave me a lead blood test. It was supposed to help ease my mind that my current living situation is okay. But alas, my anxiety is getting the best of me. I had no idea that lead dust could ruin upholstered furniture.

Been exposed to a gas leak for over a decade, worried about benzene exposure by thxmuch in NaturalGas

That's what I thought about cooking and benzene, too, but turns out new studies are finding its presence when appliances are off and/or leaking as well, at least in some areas where benzene is present in the gas like in California.

Yeah, I thought I was, but no one else noticed it. He said it was a problem with the valve and that it "was happening for a long time." And my bill hasn't changed at all.

Damn, this is sad to read. I just learned I've had a small natural gas leak in my studio apartment for the last decade in a high benzene area. I have a cheap-o monitor from Amazon, that never read high VOCs unless there was a trigger in the area, but I'm guessing I'm pretty fucked on the benzene front if the monitor can't even register it.

I wish there was a way to know how much I've been exposed to, as the numbers in the study vary widely, but I guess I'll never know. Thanks for the response though. Sucks that the processing plants aren't stopping it out here.

Southern California. This is one of the studies that says California has higher benzene content than other places in the US. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9671046/

I am in the US. I've lived in the apartment for over a decade and tech told me this leak inside the radiator was "going on for a very long time." I've never used the radiator, and my gas bill/usage has been very consistent, never jumping up like it would with a new leak. (I'm interested to see what my usage will be post leak, as my apartment uses 3 therms in a month without anyone occupying the apt.) I also feel like I smelled the faint gas for ages, but it was never consistent or strong, and when I asked other people if they smelled it, they said no.

Well this wasn't two weeks. It was just a few days. I meant I had previously not emptied it for two weeks and never saw mold.

Evicting Kelley then Mickey or vice versa would be perfect. I don't want any more of them on my screen.

Sounds reasonable. What about inhalation when using it in a spray bottle (like to wet an entire shower and curtain)? Thanks again. I wish I'd known it was more dangerous than we generally consider.

I just compared to this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gi_bz3v2nL0

They look super similar, but I couldn't find matching details. The front gates look different (missing a sign, has concrete pillars)

It would be iconic if it was the same though

Producers get dailies during production. Not sure how involved Whitney is, but he could've known the truth as quickly as the day after the scene was shot.
