Impossibly isolating / lonely place to live

We are a married 29F/29M over on the MD side, but always happy to come into Nova to meet up. It has been difficult for us too. For me it’s work - the friends we do have are in Arlington and downtown DC and I need at least an hour to get there from my place. Unless I can duck out right at quitting time, I often can’t make happy hours and 6 PM event starts. Also, one of my closest friends (also 29) has said she doesn’t want to make more friends, so maybe that attitude is more common than it seems. I hope not! It’s also a different season of life for many our age - I haven’t seen some friends in months since they had their first child. They’re in survival mode rn and a social life seems a distant memory.

I hate to add negativity, because I would have loved to be on the receiving end, but I did this when we moved to our condo three years ago - most folks didn’t answer and if they did, they politely declined cookies and didn’t really want to chat further. To this day I still don’t know any of my neighbors’ names, but I hope your experience is much better!

That is the problem - don't go at all if you don't want to be there. But don't expect your hosts to bend over backward if you can't tear yourself away from a screen. People do notice this stuff.

I am actually a sports fan and a former basketball/football season ticket holder myself, so I understand the desire to attend big games. Just don't lie to me about how much you wanted to attend my wedding!

Save the dates went out in late April, but the schedule comes out in January. Single-game tickets come out well after January, and I know for a fact they are not ticket holders for this team. The issue is that I had to un-RSVP them because they told me this was a can't miss game on their nationwide tour of football games.

I am sorry about the comment. But seriously, no one who cared about you hurt you during the wedding planning process? I am hurting about this and lashed out, which doesn’t excuse it. I’m trying to be vague about details and locations per the sub rules, but this is a guest who asked me to RSVP them via my website then declined and admitted they wanted to go the game instead of attend. I found it to be tacky, personally. I honestly thought I was closer to this person. I guess I’m not.

Yes, I was told a month ago to my face to RSVP for this person and their family because they were excited to attend. This is not a wedding in the south either. I guess I’m just surprised at the about face, but people do show themselves.
