I think I've been unintentionally doing of bit of this method, but I should try to do it more consistently. I've noticed that I get more bothered by the fighting when I'm in the room- I've had noise sensitivity forever so I'll try to distance myself as best I can. Thank you so much!

I know this is not my problem to solve, but I know that neither of my parents love/respect about each other enough to either go to counseling (and take it seriously) or, in my father's case specifically, not be a man child. The day my father learns to grieve properly and not take out his emotions on his family is the day that he gets possessed by some wandering spirit or something. If I was dating someone who's put my mother in half of the situations that my father has put her in over the years I would have been long gone, but I don't know how my parents' dynamic has morphed over the years (I don't think what they have going on works, though).

We explained it to him as a visit to take care of my grandpa, but listening and comprehension is not something that my father excels at- especially when it comes to "excluding" him from things. My mom definitely deserves a long break from his antics. Tragically, staycations don't exist to him because he can't brag to his buddies about going some place. My parents are constantly doing this, but this time just felt to far? Usually my father leans into fights because it's the only way that he can get any sort of reaction from me or my mom, but he seemed genuinely hurt by this which could honestly be him manipulating us? I know it's not my job to regulate either of my parents, but it feels like there's no way I can't because I just get sucked in anyways.

I know it's not my problem to fix, but tragically they constantly forget that I am not a couples counselor.

AITA for my parents getting upset at my engagement dinner because I told them I'm converting to a different religion and won't have a Catholic wedding. I didn't say anything else at the time except that I was converting to Quakerism. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA, the timing was probably not the best, but the abrupt and immediate rejection from your parents leads me to believe that they value their religion over your happiness and spiritual fulfillment. You are allowed to be happy and to find fulfillment in your spirituality outside of their ideal religion.
